The windows installer will prevent you, so use the DOS one. Aftermath must be installed to play single player or skirmish. Unfortunately, you can't go back to regular skirmish.

I can play the game on Vista, CoreToDuo 2,66 Ghz, Geforce 8600GS with compatibility mode set to Win98. But, you can not watch the cutscenes. WinXP cutscenes work fine with Win98 compability mode. But, the game is unstable and crashes to desktop frequently.

Took me a while.. Booted up with Beehive OS (might work with win95/98 boot disk too). Must have one har drive partition in FAT32 mode so it is visible in dos... Installed the game and ran the setup, selected soundblaster although the game complains there is no sound card. The thing is, the setup can't write the player.ini file correctly under XP, and this is why it has to be installed in dos-mode. After that the game can be run (main.exe) with VdmSound in XP. Enjoy!

I own Command & Conquer Renegade, and I also use a Windows ME, everytime i try to install renegade it goes through the video, until it stops to the installation process

The game can work under Windows XP but he setup program always fails under Windows XP. To bypass the setup program use a dual boot or
Copy all files in the INSTALL directory and the AUD1 directory to C:\C&C.
Then create a text file called CONQUER.INI in this directory with the following lines:
