Freeze by resolution change?

Got a problem. Tried canning video and audio acceleration, tried ACT 1. 5, no dice. Had an HD problem, and restored my W2K install with Ghost. Now UT takes about 15-30 seconds to change screen resolution, and Age of Empires 2 (fresh install, latest patch) just plain goes black after the intro movies.

My system has all updates on the windows update page with exception to IE 6.0. New hardware is a chaintech GeForce3 Ti 200. Tried 21.83 and 28.32 det drivers, no difference. HD has been having several issues lately, so that may also be suspect.

Any help would be appreciated.

OP
Oops. Turns out the readme had the fix, just add nostartup to the shortcut to disable the intro video at start. Have to add the readme check to my FAQ. Silly me for thinking such a problem would have been eliminated in an MS game for an MS OS, and assuming it was therefore a video prob.

However, has anyone else experienced UT taking over 15 seconds just to do a resolution change?!? I'm used to it only taking a second or two.
