Half Life Technical Problem, PLEASE HELP!

I just bought a sweet laptop and I wanted to play half life 1 before I went out and played half life 2. I tried to install half life 1 but when I clicked on the install button on the autoplay menu nothing happened. Then I went into the the cd and clicked on the setup and it still did nothing. Please help me and tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Was there any kind of error message or did absolutley nothing happwen?

Did the little egg-timer on the mouse cursosr come up at all?
