Someone posted in here (and I was running into a simiar problem) about this issue. I do not have a pirated copy, and I have a valid serial. I purchased the game from ebay. I ran into this random issue after a few saves into the game. AI Disabled would be showing on the bottom right of the screen.
Now to solve this issue....
in console you type "ai_debug_actbusy 1".
This will solve the problem, and you may enjoy the game as usual.

Hi. I have a pirate copy of HALF-LIFE II(a bit breaking the law.) And this solution you gave doesn't work. Does that mean that i have to get an original game,(which i will,as soon as i have financial prerequisities to do so,and that will be the Gold Pack) or is there another solution? any help is appreciated.(hopefully,my spelling is correct.)

hi guys,
i need help please
half life 2 plays perfectly from the start, but if i exit the game and load a saved game later, my ai is disabled. i've taken malaris and cronic's advice about the "ai_enable" and "ai_debug_actbusy 1", but it still doesn't work.
i'm stranded on the sand trap stage, nova prospekt.i cannot find the hole in the wall, any suggestions?

Well duh because if you did you would not be asking that question as it only happens with ILLEGAL copies.

Personally I had no problem at all giving Valve some hard-earned for that epic game. Bring on the flood of mods and official expansions!
