Hewlett Packard does NOT
supply any drivers for the Scanjet 3200 for Windows 2000 or NT. However,
Windows 2000 recognizes it as a "Umax Astra 1220P". Download
the VistaScan Software at http://www.umax.com
(select the Astra 1220p scaner, and then Windows NT) and the scanner will install just fine in
Windows 2000. I will assume this goes for Windows NT as well.

Received the follow messages:
1) The NT 4.0 drivers will work only with the parallel version. To get
the USB version working, install the printer as a DeskJet 970Cse. This
allows USB printing but limits you to 600dpi
2) HP now announce that a driver with full capability will NOT now be
available until September... presumably they mean this year! Previously
they had announced that a driver would be available in the spring.

Instructions:
1. Boot the computer with the scanner turned off or disconnected.
2. Install HP PrecisionScan 1.02 and DON'T reboot yet.
3. Run the Windows 2000 patch
4. Reboot with the scanner connected and turned on.
5. Windows will complain about hpppt.exe not starting, so go to
Start-Programs-Startup and delete the shortcut to "HP Parallel port
test"
6. Open the registry (start menu - run, type "redegit"), go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRunOnce and delete
the item with "hpppt" in it.
7. Reboot.
8. If any drivers for the 5100C scanner got installed, uninstall them (don't
uninstall the software!)
9. If not already installed, install the 4100C drivers found on the Windows 2000
CD.
10. (Optional) install the patch for the copy utility if you own an USB printer.
The HP PrecisionScan software for the 5100C works
flawlessly with the drivers for the 4100C that were on the Win 2000 disk.

It has native USB support but the software works better through a parallel port as there is no bi-directional option with USB.

Works fine with Vista Enteprise. In order to get Bluetooth working, you need to download the Bluetooth package from www.hp.com. The display sometimes fails when resuming from standby, using dual screen configuration. Resulting in black screens on both internal and external LCD. I've found out that hitting the powerbutton and resuming once again from standby, usually fixes this.

HP Photosmart 475 photo printer (5)

Vista final build 6.0.6000 has a native driver thats better than the one from HP. Just plug in the USB cable and it loads the driver. No issues here.

HP Deskjet 720c (5)

Drivers
supplied with win2k (build 2195). The drivers work ... but they support
none of the features of PhotoRETII , which actually characterizes this
printer. The drivers are in fact even a lot slower then in Win98 using
HP drivers.

It will NOT work using the drivers received with the printer. You must download the latest drivers from HP before it will work. However, just let XP search the internet for drivers and it will take you to the appropriate HP URL. Warning: The patch is 56meg!

Received the follow messages:
1) USB Scanner. Not officially supported by HP, but the supplied Win98/ME drivers happen to work in W2K. Just connect and specify the path of the CD-ROM when Windows detects the scanner. Don't forget to reboot (or it won't work.)
2) The individual that stated that the ScanJet was working under Win2K doesn't know what isn't working under Win2K. This isn't a YES or No It's a Sort of Working :). The TWAIN Driver Interface will not load without displaying an error message. In Addition you can only scan one item before the scanning interface closes and then you have to start it again and wait for the lamp to warm up. It's totally annoying. If you bought this scanner for Win2K and have been noticing screwy behavior I recommend you take yours back like I did. I've owned 5 different scanners now and I know when they are and are not working.
