Hello.

I have a 4mbit dsl connection and it keeps disconnecting every time i start to use it heavy. like starting a download. or something happening in a game. it starts to download. but after a few minuts. Also when i run a speedometer test. it says i have 4 - 4.4 mbit connection. but when i download i get speed like 100 kbit/s i used to have around 500kbit/s from the same servers :/

any one know what this can be ? ive called support from my isp. but they cant find whats wrong.

From your side you can do the standard operating procedures like scan your machine using Ad-Aware or Spybot search and destroy or even Microsoft's Spyware to see if you have something untoward operating in the background and stealing your bandwidth.

Did your ISP tell you what they did; was it a simple ping test? Since you are using DSL, you may have some crossover noise in your telephone lines and this is causing the modem to drop packets. You will have to call your phone company to have them check that out. These are just the standard things most people start with.

the isp just said that he where looking at my conenction and that he found the modem. and he didnt see any troubles with it. But i gonna call them again, tell em to check my phone wires

Tell your ISP that you want a techie over to give you a new DSL modem, or to send you one, or you'll get another ISP.

Seriously, you are paying for DSL and not getting the service. Have them fix it. Don't ask them, tell them. This is your money, get what you are psying for, or go with another ISP.

By the way, what kind of modem are you using? It wouldn't be a Westell 6100 would it? Anyway, some DSL routers have their own internal router that need to be run in bridge mode or they will drop connection.
