X-Wing Alliance works great IF you manage to install it on Vista x64 ... Please, be my guest and download my unofficial freeware installer from http://www.markusegger.at. The problem is: The original XWA setup was created using very old InstallShield technology which produced 16-bit installers. Since there is no 16-bit subsystem in Vista x64, there is no possibility to get the original setup running. The only chance was to "reverse engineer" which files/folders have to be copied off the CD and which registry entries have to be made using a Windows XP workstation. Using that knowledge and the free Microsoft WiX toolkit, a Standards-compliant, state-of-the-art MSI setup could be created. Best Regards, Markus

While Star Wars: KOTOR 2 has no Windows 64 support officially it does run. Three things though, 1. run latest patch before playing. 2. Don't launch the game from the Autorun Launcher, it causes trouble in-game for the user. Use the original .exe file found in the game's directory instead. 3. Some people playing the game in Windows 64 might have issues with the game running in mirrored mode. With that, just go to the swkotor2.ini file and set the display and graphics option to Fullscreen=1 . And there you have it.

I had the skipping video/audio you descibed for NT 4.0 under Windows 2000, too. Fixed it the following way: Select Start/Run/dxdiag
Under the 'Sound' tab, set the sound acceleration to 'minimum', close dxdiag and run the game as described. ('minimum' is the second position from the left; I have the german version, and don't know if the description is different in the english version)

Needs SoundFX and at least 8 megs of DPMI memory in the memory tab of .pif properties. The sound is a little sluggish, still, but it's definitely playable. Couldn't get it to work with VDM Sound, the sound was distorted and generally bad.

Received the follow messages:
1) Crash and blackscreen
problems I've read about seem to be limited to Voodoo systems. This game
runs great on my computer. Long live the Empire! (until I defect to the
Rebellion)
2) installs fine, launches fine but it is very unstable : stops
unexpectedly after a while no patch known
3) Installs fine, screen is blank white after loading.
Sounds and mouse all work, but no graphics. Using Voodoo Banshee.

Works great under W2k with VDMSound, just make sure your VDM is configured to provide 2M or more of EMS memory.

Crashes using latest VDMsound in Win2k SP2 and XP Pro. Disk version works fine though, try that!

You can use the VDMS utility to get sound with DOTT. If the dialog seems to get stuck, press ESC to move on, or save and load your game. The scene where Laverne drops the barf made DOTT crash for me. If it does, turn off the sound in the configuration, then turn it back on after Laverne drops the barf. Don't forget to read to Oozo :)
