I have never had a problem with this utility before. But I just ran the "Nvidia Win2K refresh fix" on an older Samsung Syncmaster 550s monitor (I made the registry backup on the hard disk). Now when I boot the machine (& I will be doing this physically soon), I can't load windows. I get as far as the initial BIOS post screen, then the monitor just starts going crazy. It starts screwing up before the Win2K "Press F8" screen during the boot process. I find that strange considering that screen is well before the Win2K boot GUI.

I tried:

> pressing F8 even though I couldn't see anything on monitor (just in case I was allowed into the debugging screen)
> switching video cards
> clearing the CMOS
> degaussing screen
> yelling obscenities

Suggestions?

It sounds like Windows is trying to run at a refresh rate higher than the monitor can support. You shouldn't mess about with stuff like that unless you know either a)safe values for the monitor, even if they are not optimal or b)the exact refresh rate/resolution combinations that your monitor supports.

Have you got a higher spec monitor available that you can hook up for a short time so you can turn down the refresh rates?

Hi

I dont see how the refresh rate fix could possibly affect it that early in the boot process. I would first try yelling more obscenities and then throwing it out the window cos its probably broken anyway

Maybe it just died, in a huge coinsidence.
