Is it safe to assume this can be downloaded in a total-package version, as well as(or preferably for me, instead of) the customized update?

Good question Inferno. From what I've heard, this is quite a hefty download, so I imagine a lot of folks will be requesting it on CD, but I plan to download it, if I can, as I have cable.

AS will I.

I just save everything to CD, because I'm called upon frequently to install things or configure computers by my peers. Therefore, I would prefer having a large file to download and be able to distribute amongst others without having to worry about the internet, as many of my peers won't have T1 access this fall like I will.

MS never mentioned a release date, except to say that it is "on track for summer delivery." Several news sites have said "soon," but as far as I can tell there was nothing to substantiate claims of the 17th (never quoted actual Microsoft sources).

Hence it could be any time this summer.

Microsoft could be deliberately waiting until the official release of Datacenter for concurrent launch. It could also be undergoing "extended QA" due to the "critical" nature of this update.

Looks like you're right Schmoe. I looked high and low for anything on this today and got nowhere. Oh well, hurry up and wait.

Me thinks MS is so busy getting out the all-important Media Player 7 (they even put out a press-release) that they've forgotten about us poor wage-slaves THAT BUY THEIR FRIGGEN OS'S! Grrrr!

Well it's Tuesday and no service pack, not that I need it since beta 1 is working fine. But I find it funny how people who post threads about something being released, when clearly they have no idea what they are talking about. Like id software always would say. It will be released "When it's done"

I think you guys misread the article stating the release for SP1. Although the headline said SP1 was going to be released on Monday, the article specifically said it's going to be RTM on Monday, and posted on the web "several days later"...

Just ****in wait and things will be released when they are ready. That's like the SB Live drivers. There must have been a 100 people *****in that they where no available when CL said they woudld be. Like *****in about it will make then release it any faster.

As quoted by MS

".... However, IE 5.5 will be provided as part of Windows 2000 Service Pack 1...."

Maybe this is why it's late?

had to be redone around 5.5?

Ah, but you are forgetting something. SP1 isn't late. MS never announced a release date except "sometime this summer."
