Installed Win2kPRO RC3
(2183). Installation detected everything except the 1394 controler. Used
the drivers for the Sony 1394 controler found in the Application
Recovery CD and Everything seems to work fine. Power management works
and the computer will go in and out of StandBy with out any problems.

It took a while, but finally found their drivers page. It keeps disappearing though. The only thing that doesn't
work are some of the Fn keys and the programmable hotkeys for internet access. They need to update the hkey file still.

Sony Europe do not officially support Windows 2000 on this model. So go to http://www.vaio-link.com and download the F304-F305 Windows 2000 software package. (These models are virtually identical in specs) DON�T install any BIOS upgrades they are not intended for your machine and I have read some nasty stories in newsgroups or wrecked machines. Besides you don�t really need an update. Install Windows 2000 as normal. When asked to partition just install on the existing partition and convert to NTFS. Don�t mess with other partition as it is needed for suspend to disk. Once Windows is working install the extra Sony drivers you have already downloaded. Only install: i.Link (Firewire Driver) TouchPad Driver Video Driver Other Sony utilities do not work presumably because of the BIOS. Go to http://www.com1-support.com for Platinium MC220 (4 in 1) drivers. You lose some of the Sony touches like power panel but it works beautifully and the disk compression really makes the most of your 4.3GB. As with any Windows 2000 installation 128mb of RAM or more is preferable.

Windows 2000 Professional will install, and all the drivers on the URL will work fine with it. Just note that Notebook Setup will not be functional, and the included Media Bar will not work because "a Sony computer" is not detected by the software. However, there are ways to get around it with some registry editing.

Windows XP will only see the burner as a normal CDROM. You can use 3rd party software to use it but WINXP will not burn directly to it. Sony support was not helpful at all.

Drivers for Windows2000 work just fine, only one thing: under printer properties enable direct printing. Otherwise you'll revieve error message.

Sony Memory Stick Walkman NW-MS7 (1)

Received the follow messages:
1) The software will not install. Sony do not respond to emails requesting support. Supplied software crashes regularly under Windows 98.
2) OS sees the device when plugged into the USB port but doesn't install. Sony says that it doesn't work under 2000. There's gotta be a way to get it running..
3) After returning my walkman to Sony UK to be upgraded to be Windows 2000 compatible and installing the OpenMG software (selecting NW-MS9 as the device) it all works fine. I had to pay POUND 40.85 for the service. (POUND 22+VAT for upgrade, POUND 12.75+VAT for OpenMG 2.0 CD). The walkman now reports to Windows 2000 as an NW-MS7A.

I tried using the drivers from japan (given here)to get this digital cam to be recognized under NT 4.0 like in win98 but couldn't.

The only things there are still issues with are the Sony Hotkey app, the Sony Programmable Power Key app, and for some reason I can't get my BIOS upgrade to work. BUT, all in all, running very well.
