Thanks Franco. VR-Zone has posted some news on the next generation Sound Blaster

"According to our sources, the next generation sound chip from Creative will be known as Sound Blaster Zenith. It will be a complete new architecture from the current Audigy series and it will be based on PCI Express x1. The launch of Audigy 4 Pro today which is an enhanced Audigy 2 ZS chip is the transition to the Sound Blaster Zenith series scheduled for launch in March 2005"

aaaah,
finally, news on an actual new part.

hopefuly that will have sound storm esque dolby encoding/decoding in hardware.

and maybe the intel channel targetting ( don't know the actual name, but eg. mp3 player -> channel 1 -> speakers. games -> channel 2 -> headphones)

that would actually be a new creative card worth buying then (the first for 3-4 years?), as long as their driver support improves significantly.
