I downloaded Magicscan 4.3
for NT from the Umax web site. Magicscan works only for SCSI scanners
and runs 100% under Win '98. Installation was smooth with no hang-ups,
Win2K recognized the UMAX S-6E but wouldn't install the drivers for it
or the UDS-11 controller card. However, the scanner, controller card,
and magicscan program seem to work perfectly fine even though I can't
get the devices properly recognized. I haven't run into any problems yet,
so it's a good fix until/if ever win2k drivers come out from UMAX.

Umax Astra 2100U USB (3)

VistaScan update for Win2000. The only function not supported are the front buttons on the scanner. Twain drivers work great. Drivers released Oct. 19, 2000

Umax Astra 600P scanner internal power supply (1)

It appears that there are to versions of the Astra 600P. One has an internal power supply, is older, and is incompatible with w2k. The newer 600P have an external power supply and are compatible with w2k and work with the VistaScan Version 3.10 for Astra 610P.

The applications provided by the vendor (UMAX) don't require to be installed with XP which is a big plus since those applications are not very good. The scanner works with Win2K and NT4 as well but I never got around to install just the driver (I did not try hard though).Bottom line: using this device with XP is a real snap!

Astra 2200 (5)

Download the 353 driver for Windows 2000 and then the 355 update for Win2K. Install the 353 driver. Then install the 355 update. Next go to device manager and find imaging devices and click on the plus. Notice the Umax 2200(USB) driver there. Right click and go to properties and click on the driver tab. Now click the update driver button and choose the location of the driver yourself. Now you will have 2 drivers to choose from. Pick the one from Umax (it was the second one for me) and install that. Then Reboot and your scanner will work (it did for me)

Umax 1200U (5)

Just plug it in and XP detects it. Then go to the Camera and Scanner wizard works great since Umax has NEVER released working drivers for Win2k.

Umax 600P scanner (5)

not working using win2k driver buil-tin (scans all black!), but Vistascan software from Umax works fine. Yes now you can scan WHILE cruising the net!

Umax Astra 2000U Scanner (5)

Received the follow messages:
1) The Umax 1220u driver works with the basic
plain-jane TWAIN DS plugin, but neither VistaScan, nor VistaAccess (the utility
that lets you control the lamp on/off timeout) works. I used VistaScan 3.5.2
from http://umax.co.uk Thus the scanner works,
but if you use it during a Win2K session, teh light stays on ALL the time (even
overnight for 10 hours!). I fixed this by reboting to Win98, installing the same
drivers into Win98, letting Win98 turn the lamp off, then shutting down after
using the scanner. How tedious, but it works. Umax say that Win2K drivers for
most models should be out in the next week or two.
2) The new VistaScan 3.55 update works fine.
You need to download VistaScan 3.52 SCSI/USB (not
just USB) version, then run the updater, then reboot, then remove the scanner
from the device manager, then rescan for new devices, then allow driver to
update then specify %systemroot%system32 to find the PV8630.SYS file, then allow driver to finish loading. Kill VistaAccess and restart it and everything's sweet!
3) new drivers for win2000 for the 2000u,2100u and the 2200u models.but on umax site they say there will be no support for scanners older than the 2000u

1) Works with the SCSI interface. Installed the VistaScan software then installed the drivers for the 2200 from the Disk2 folder in the Vistascan directory on the CD included with the scanner.
2) SCSI & USB. I had major problems installing this scanner in two different computers which the only common thing they have is their OS (W2K Pro).I wrote an e-mail to UMAX asking for help.Here is the answer which helped me make this scanner work: Disconect scanner Delete the scanner and software from W2k over Hardware option. Copy VistaScan folder from CD to HDD. Change VSSetup.exe in disk1. ( http://www.umaxweb.de/dl/VSSetup.zip ) Install VistaScan. Install Win2kupdate ( http://www.umaxsys.de/ftp/vs_pc/VS355UP.EXE ) Delete VistaAccess from your Startup folder. When you use VistaScan 3.7 delete scanner in W2k and start here. Is there a errorcode 31 update the http://www.umaxsys.de/ftp/vs_pc/v370u/pv8630.zip in your WINDOWSSYSTEM and WINDOWSSYSTEM32 folder. Connect scanner with PC

Umax Astra 2010U Scanner (5)

Use the Umax Astra 1220U driver included with Windows 2000. The TWAIN interface is not as polished as the new versions of VistaScan, but it works. I have found *no* version of VistaScan that will work with this or other drivers.

Beta Drivers, seem to work fine under Windows 2000. They do an update to
VistaScan 3.52, please read the readme.txt enclosed in the zip-file.
Sometimes Vista Access hooks up. I worked
around that by killing VistaAccess using the Task Manager. Afterwards I
pulled out the USB - Cable an then put it back again. Now VistaAccess
could be restarted and worked again.

Umax Astra 610P (5)

Works fine when you install NT4 drivers. You have to
do a custom install and only have the Twain driver install checked to get the
install to work. Then with a reboot it all works great.

Umax Astra 1200S (5)

I did installed software for
umax 2400s , vistascan 3.51 for windows nt. After rebooting, win2000
recognized scsi adapter and software became fully functional.

Umax Powerlook III (1)

NT 4.0 drivers do not work.
No drivers provided from UMAX or microsoft. Included SCSI card installs
fine with microsoft drivers

Astra 1220P Scanner (5)

under build 2195 but only if you have Vistascan version 3.52

Umax 610S Scanner (1)

Don't use
the 3.5 version driver from UMAX web site. It doesn't work.
Instead, use the driver that comes with Win2K. It's older, but
it does the trick. If you test the scanner under 3.5 version, it
will be fine. However, when you try to acquire an image from any
Photo Editing software, it will fail as soon as you start the
scan process. A message box will come up about the scanner has
stopped responding.

Umax 1220 P Scanner (5)

Using 3.5 VistaScan drivers,
will work, but only if running an administrator account. Otherwise,
returns a scanner link failure. Also leaves an unidentified device in
Device manager.
