Hey, have any of you seen that commercials on TV for X3D?
It has the guy from Star Trek: The NEXT Generation on it as its spokesman, "Wesley Crusher" character (Will Wheaton), & shows some demos of it claiming to really enhance 3d gaming & such...
(Comes with an adapter you link into the middle of your cable from the vidcard to the monitor & some 3D style glasses as well that seem to cable into that adapter)
* Reminds me almost of how 3dFx used to pony their accelerators onto your existing video card in a PCI slot next to it, & connecting them via a pass-thru cable... except this is external to the PC itself, & uses no PCI slot: It's different!
APK
P.S.=> Now, I don't know if any of you have seen that or what, but I am curious on it myself... wondering if it would be worth linking into an existing board like a GeForce, Radeon, etc. apk

I've read of a few people who have various other verisons of these glasses, and they say they work really well.
Only real downside is they don't work with TFT screens
It's possible that this X3D stuff might, but all the earlier models explicitly stated that you had to use a CRT screen.

Well, thanks for the feedback!
I was not sure if this type of thing would mix with existing graphics boards like GeForce types (which I have along with a std. CRT, no plasma display or LCD type etc.)!
* It does sound interesting from the promo for it, like it might even enhance the existing 3D-ness of it.

From what I recall, it works much like the old 3D glasses (with the red and blue lenses).
You run special software on your PC, and then fire up the game. The video output is split into two channels, and your monitor looks like it's gone beserk.
The glasses have lenses in them which refresh at different rates and fooling your brain into making it one solid image again, but it looks 3D rather than flat.
The glasses need to patch into the video signal so they can refresh at the same rate as the monitor and make sure that each lens is displaying the correct image at the right time.
I think they'd be interesting toys to play with, but I'd definately want to have a go with them before I shelled out.

here is the deal
those things are damn cool
i built a gamming machine for this kid one time and included those
the way they work is rediculously simple
the glasses are shutter glasses
to make the stereo scopic image the just put the left eye image on the screen when the left eye shutter is open and the right eye shutter is closed then vice versa. They do this really fast so that it fools your eye.
the effect is absolutly amasing. Like in quake 3 the stuff looks like it is poping out of the screen as well as going really deep into the screen. It is one of the most increadable things i have ever seen in 3d gamming.

Ah... now finally, someone with some "hands-on" experience here with this unit!
(This is worth a 100 reviews to me, especially from someone I know online rather than a website review!)

This is EXACTLY what I was hoping for, to hear about it. Yes, this does sound very very cool!
(So much so, I may shell out & nail one... sounds VERY good!)
QUESTIONS:
1.) From what you saw using it, will it mix with existing 3d cards? Sounds like it will no hassle/no problem!
2.) Sounds like it just adjusts what you see, independently of the graphics card itself, & even the monitor... it only feeds these glasses from the looks of it to do what it does!
(And, it does sound simple... sometimes, the best things in life are just simple stuff others have overlooked!)
* Thanks for feedback 4:20, this is good to hear from someone who has actually messed with one of these things...

well the one i used was from asus and it was desinged to work with the card. It had another wire to controll the shutter and that plugged right into the card. You had to use the special asus drivers for that perticular card. Refrence drivers from nvidia wouldn't work.
i don't know the specifics on the one you are talking about.
