"I have to say that when I saw the list of performance improvements on the latest set of Catalyst drivers I was shocked. What was even more interesting, though, was the fact that they’re not a bunch of performance improvements that are aimed at Windows 7, but if you have a quick look at what exactly AMD are offering us it's also clear that they've helped remove an important problem that is seen on so many systems.

What we're seeing is that most gains are seen on big dual CrossFire X setups that find themselves CPU limited. Since graphics cards tend to move faster than CPUs, it's not uncommon for CPU limitations to be an issue. This is one of the main reasons we have our CPU overclocked at 3.8GHz, to give the graphics cards we test a fair and balanced scoring pattern."

"I had to check the Game.AMD website the other day to make sure I didn't miss the email about the release of the latest Catalyst drivers. As I expected, when I checked the website there wasn't a new driver. A few days later, however, and that email came through saying a new driver set had been released.

While running a bit late this month, the AMD team finally managed to get a new driver out. This month also saw the release of Windows 7 to manufacturers and over the coming months we'll be integrating the new operating system into our benchmark line-up."

The Guru of 3D has released Guru3D Driver Sweeper 2.0.0 Final

"Guru3D - Driver Sweeper is a fast (completely free) tool to remove driver leftovers from your system. Driver Sweeper is very easy to use. You only have to select the drivers you want to clean.

The best way to clean drivers is to first uninstall the drivers using the official uninstallers, reboot in Safe Mode and run Guru3D - Driver Sweeper. However, rebooting and not going into Safe Mode also works, but can cause some files not to be cleaned.

What can it be used for ?

The current supported drivers are NVIDIA (Display and Chipset), ATI (Display), Creative (Sound), Ageia (PhysX), MMouse and Realtek (Sound).

All the settings are saved in an ini file. Nothing is created in the registry, so it's possible to use it as a portable program. Log files can be saved to the harddisk and viewed as well. You can find the logs under the Tools menu.

System requirements:

The Guru3D - Driver Sweeper is fully tested on Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Windows 7 (final).

Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions are supported."
