Please note: this solution works for Dungeon Keeper, Dungeon Keeper: The Deeper Dungeons and their Direct3D counterparts.
1) HOW TO INSTALL: You have to install the game from the WINSETUP directory inside the KEEPER directory. Run SETUP and wait a while (it's normal for the computer to take a little time here). Click NEXT and wait for the installation as normal.
2) PATCH THE GAME: first apply all official patches availabe at http://dk2.ea-europe.com/dk1/content/downloads/index.html
3) HOW TO PLAY: right click on the executable file and select under compatibility "Windows 95". It should work fine.

It took more time than I expected for any activity to occur. It took well over one minute for the setup splash screen to show up. No program group or icon was created. After installing from \KEEPER\WINSETUP, create desktop icon shortcut to "KEEPER95.EXE" (From Program Files\Bullfrog\Keeper). After you create the icon, right click on it and go to compatability TAB and select "Windows 95 Compatability". Patch available at filefront.com called dkpatch.zip
