I've found a solution that I haven't found on any website.

There is a process called "QPService.exe" that has a conflict with GTA San Andreas. The description of this process in the task manager is "HP Quickplay Resident Program".

I found that by terminating this process and then running the game, it works perfectly.

This process comes after installing HP Quickplay on your system. HP laptops already come with it.

To get San Andreas working, hit CTRL+ALT+DEL then click "Start Task Manager" go to the "Processes" tab and look for "QPService.exe" and end it.

This fixed on my computer:

- The time it took between loading the game and showing the menu on the screen.

- The time it took to show the menu when I paused the game.

- Occasional freezing.

San Andreas works fine with no lag on my laptop with a pentium dualcore 1,60ghz (x2) and with 1gbram with at least 700mb of it left. 8400m GS 512mb videocard. I got the same mouse problem here at version 1.0 on xp pro sp3. And also sometimes when I step in a car the moment cj gets his foot in the car it sometimes makes the game freeze wich forces me to go to hibernate and go back to windows again, wich is the only thing to fix the crash. Or if I drive very fast out of my garage, i get it. I think because my laptop's hardware was originally made for vista only, and because it's OEM, that it doesn't work. Any of you people have Vista machines with XP?

I just bought GTA San Andreas Version 2 and I have the same mouse problem. I'm working on Windows XP Pro SP3, and after reading several posts I can only assume that there are two solutions for the mouse problems(apart from pausing, entering, pausing, entering several times):

1)The problem occurs when using USB mouse, NOT PS/2 mouse as I had no problems with PS/2 mouse on the same operating system. So changing your USB to PS/2 with an adaptor may solve the problem. If it insists change the place where you connect your USB and restart San Andreas.

2)This solution solves the mouse problems but it has to be done every time you begin the game.Start the game and at the main menu Ctrl+Alt+Delete to Task Manager. There find gta_sa.exe right click it and select Set Afinity... Leave ONLY CPU 0 ticked press OK and get back to the game. It should be solved, but you may encounter performance issues on older PCs.Newer PCs (or laptops) have no performance issues.

I have an old laptop from 2002, Toshiba Satellite 1400.
It has 32 MB VRAM of its Trident Cyberblade XP GPU.
After starting, it plays credit (which I skip) and the San Andreas logo with some information appears. Within a few seconds it quits immediately, no logs, no errors, no everything. Can't get it to work.
