VIA Hardware has posted up a 3-way AMD CPU shootout posing the AMD Duron, Athlon, and the new Athlon XP all at 1200.



What differs the newer AthlonXP and Duron from the older line of processors is a host of new technology designed to increase speed. Both the AthlonXP and AthlonMP and based on the Palomino core, while the Duron is based on the Morgan core. These new designs bring several key features to the table. The changes include an increase in the number of L1 TLB entries, SSE optimization, data prefetch, and a thermal diode. Individually, these improvements don't offer a huge performance increase - together, though, they can improve performance in various applications.
