Corsair TwinX1024 DDR500 / PC4000 Review

Posted by Philipp Esselbach on: 08/02/2003 12:56 PM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

SubZeroTech has posted a new Review "Corsair TwinX1024 DDR500 / PC4000".

For anyone running a Pentium 4 based system with an 875 or 865 chipset you know that the primary hindrance to any sort of massive overclock is of course the memory speed. That is unless you are some poor unfortunate soul missing out because you own an Intel board that has a small percentage of overclock functionality primarily gained by the hardly substantial burn in feature. For the rest of us we all know that 200 MHz memory, or DDR400, or PC3200 just is not enough for our boards. For those of us with some decent cooling and half a mind for performance faster memory is really quite essential. In fact, with the latest from Corsair, their 500MHz memory, the actual clock speed is 25% faster?when you multiply that by four via the quad pumped memory channels you are looking at what is really quite a substantial increase in memory performance. Think of it this way, the ?old? 533FSB CPU?s and motherboards ran at a speed of 133 x 4. The 875/865 generation has brou! ght us to a stock 200 x 4 speed, which is roughly 66MHz x 4 faster. This is of course a massive jump in speed, and has great appeal with good cause to many enthusiasts. By making the jump from DDR400 (200 MHz x 4) to DDR500 you are jumping 50MHz x 4?when compared to the 133 x 4 jump made to 200 x 4 you may as well consider it to be ?practically a new chipset?. That is how impressive the numbers are at a first glance.
