Crucial has been an active participant in the memory market for many years and their early release of DDR2 memory further enforced their presence. They released their DDR2 memory at the beginning of April which was well in advance of the release of motherboards that would end up supporting DDR2 DIMM’s. Today I will take a look at Crucial’s fastest DIMM’s yet; clocking in at a whopping 533MHz, it proves to be a match for the regular DDR memory. With the introduction of the DDR2 modules from Crucial, there comes newer technology that allows DDR2 memory to achieve speeds up to 1GHz. Although, I must warn you that Crucial doesn’t plan to release DDR2 memory running at 667MHz until 2005; this is fairly disturbing, but nothing is written in stone. Let me start off right away with a briefing of how DDR2 memory differs from traditional DDR memory and then I will present a variety of benchmarks that will show the performance of Crucial’s DDR2-533 module versus their DDR-400 module.
