Ultra Grid Case Review
Pro-Clockers posted a review on the Ultra Grid Case

When Ultra released the Aluminus PC case it gave the computer a nice new look on an older chassis. The glossy paint job and light weight give all the modders out there a perfect case to start their next project. After we reviewed the Aluminus here at PC we were to believe that it would be hard for Ultra to top it. Today, Ultra has sent us our next sample project to share with our readers. The Grid is a smaller mid size tower that looks to give a person the option to utilize a standard size motherboard is a smaller enclosure. Does the Grid live up to the levels of the Aluminus? Let's find out.

Many TV programmes are broadcast in widescreen - and most DVD movies are of course widescreen - but what about your home movies? With advanced capture technologies, Canon's latest batch of digital camcorders are capable of recording 'true' 16:9 widescreen video.

SilverStone MS01 External 3.5" Hard Drive Enclosure Review
PC Apex have a new review up on a HDD enclosure code-named the MS01, from SilverStone.

The MS01 is a sexy little thing. Maybe because the Coke bottle shape is so reminiscent of the female form or maybe its because I'm an incurable geek. Either way, the appeal of brushed aluminum and graceful lines is undeniable. Whether you are someone looking for an enclosure that doesn't clash with the high dollar aluminum computer case in your office or you're Mr. Bling Bling Boy with an Amazing Modded Computer of Death, the MS01 is a very attractive piece that would be at home on most anyone's desk.

In the memory market, there are two things I am skeptical of. 1GB kits, and EPP. Today we are looking at a new kit from A-Data that has both. It proves to have some solid overclocking ability, thanks to it's GMH chips. Are you willing to pay $200+ for a 1GB kit though?

AlphaShield Home Edition Firewall Review
GruntvillE.com has posted a review on the AlphaShield Home Edition Firewall

The AlphaShield repelled attacks from the hacking-for-dummies type tools without even breaking a sweat, so it was time for the big guns. We decided that it is unlikely that anyone would spend more than a few hours trying to hack someone's home network so we gave our hacker a time limit of 4 hours. Surely 99% of the people trying to hack a home network would give up after 4 hours.

Premium Socket 939 Heatsink Round-Up
The Tech Lounge posted a Premium Socket 939 Heatsink Round-Up

AM2 has revitalized AMD’s K8 architecture. Core 2 has spurred the competition fiercely. Socket 939 has lost its leg up. Or has it? From the early nForce3 and K8T800 chipsets to the awesome nForce 4 SLI x16, this champion of microprocessors has been paired with motherboards that have defined and re-defined out-of-box high-performance features, like early adoption of gigabit ethernet, RAID, PCI-Express, automatic and extreme overclocking systems, CPU throttling, hardware firewalls, and ridiculously comprehensive BIOS-level control, all of which are now standards of the industry. So what of the gains made by AMD and Intel’s new offerings? We’re seeing the streamers of change, but the real-world performance differences are still decidedly marginal. No one is about to set fire to his or her rig because some upstart hardware has shown up, trying to unseat solid computing. It’s time to roll up your sleeves and show some steel, crank up the volts, and overclock. These heatsinks included in this round-up are the apex of air cooling. Which of them is going to pull ahead and give you the greatest advantage?

Is PC Gaming getting more and more boring?
Tweaknews.net has posted a new editorial: Is PC Gaming getting more and more boring?

To quote something I agree with "The stagnation of the game industry is dependant on the point of view of the individual". A good point, no game can satisfy the entire demographic just the same way as even the best movies are not enjoyed by everyone.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Overclocking Adventure
Virtual-Hideout looked at Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Overclocking

Overclocking the Core 2 Duo is extremely easy in my opinion, especially with a quality motherboard. It's actually dangerously easy because cranking this E6400 up past 3.2GHz was super easy, but the heat generated is the killer here. And if you don't monitor the temperatures you're crazy. I used the included AiSuite...

Gigabyte S-Series Core 2 Duo Motherboards: Value Boards for Core 2 Duo
Hardcoreware posted a review on the Gigabyte S-Series Core 2 Duo Motherboards

One of the biggest criticisms of building an Intel system from scratch is the fact that their motherboards are almost always more expensive than competing AMD boards. The same could be said for CPU prices and memory prices, until the launch of Core 2 Duo and AM2 respectively.

With the introduction of Gigabyte's S-Series of Core 2 Duo motherboards, they aim to reach the budget Core 2 Duo buyer. By using the year-old 945P chipset, they are able to offer a board than will retail for under $100! They also offer a low-priced P965 board as well. Both boards have basic features, but should excel in overclocking.

But how does the older chipset perform?

HomePlug powerline network kits
Bit-Tech posted a review on the HomePlug powerline network kits

At the end of the day, 48Mbit/s is more than enough for both Internet use, as well as file sharing and more consistent that you are likely to get from wireless. Performance is a little lower than we would have expected and is certainly not out to replace traditional cabling, but the two kits do offer the same reliability of transfer. There are also no issues of reception and it can in theory travel up to 200m, which is pretty much any power outlet in your house.

Ultra Products X-Finity 500W PSU with Active PFC Review
Bigbruin.com has posted a review on the Ultra Products X-Finity 500W PSU with Active PFC

Ultra Products hit the nail on the head with the X-Finity 500W PSU with Active PFC. It not only addressed the bulk of issues I had with previous X-Finity units provided for review, but the new look is very much to my liking. The monotone black appearance may be boring to some, but it looks mean to me. To make a car analogy, it's more like an old school hot rod, while some of the other X-Finity models are the flashy import tuners. Sure the appearance changed, but that would have been a wasted effort if the performance suffered. Ultra Products addressed that area too, by increasing the fan size, using an aluminum housing for better cooling, and finally including Active PFC in one of their units.

Sanyo Xacti VPC-C6 Review
TrustedReviews looked at the Sanyo Xacti VPC-C6

Last month I reviewed the Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD1, a hybrid still/HD video camera. I was impressed by its unique abilities, especially its HD video mode, as well as its futuristic style and exemplary build quality. I was less impressed with its price. £540 for a five megapixel camera is a lot of money, especially since the still picture quality was below average.
