Elite Bastards take a brief look at what's new in the Radeon X1350, X1450 and most importantly, the Mobility Radeon X1700

One of the main aims of the Mobility Radeon X1700 is to further improve performance - Below, you can see some numbers quoted by ATI using a number of games and benchmarks (at unspecified settings, I hasten to add) to get a vague feel for the kind of performance increases they are shooting for with this refresh.

Of course, considering the importance of power usage in mobile graphics cores, particularly outside of the naturally power-hungry high-end parts, why would you want to increase performance if it meant increasing power draw and thus reducing battery life? The answer (and indeed the reason we're taking a little time out to look at this core), is that the Mobility Radeon X1700 should have the same level of power consumption as its predecessor the Mobility Radeon X1600, thanks to a dramatic improvement in the performance per Watt of the Mobility Radeon X1700. But how has this been achieved?
