Gigantic photo tutorial

People have often asked me how I take the pretty product shots that I use on Dan's Data, and whether they can achieve the same results with an ordinary digital camera. I've told them that yes, they can; anybody can take professional quality pictures of any kind of object, with a few cheap tools.

I've also told them that I've been meaning to get around to writing a tutorial about all this, but they shouldn't hold their breath, because it'd take ages to write and end up taking up at least three huge browser-choking pages.
