HOT ON THE heels of Advanced Micro Devices´ launch of the 700MHz Duron low-cost microprocessor, Intel Sunday announced it had cranked up its own Celeron processor to the same speed.

Intel, in Santa Clara, Calif., launched three new models of the Celeron processor, aimed at the market for sub-$1,000 PCs. Running at 633MHz, 667MHz, and 700MHz, they are available immediately in 1,000-unit quantities for $138, $170, and $192, respectively, company spokesman Graham Palmer said Monday.
