TweakTown has posted a interview with Sam Dennis, CEO of the Rydium Network questioning the status of the network in light of other Internet networks closing down or splitting because of poor economy figures in many "dotcom" companies.



My personal opinion is that the web is not going away, and that content based sites will always have a strong readership, and that there will always be opportunity to make money by leveraging that readership. The problem is that the people who control the eyeballs are expecting everything for free. It is really really hard to run a business on free. Webmasters have a hard choice to make. I see two options:

1) Is their websites a hobby or a business. If it is a hobby they need to take any money they get as a bonus. If they want it to be a business they need to remember that the top 10% of sites make 80% of online advertising revenue. With that said they have to want to become part of the 10% and be willing to pay for it and to deal with this downturn. Rydium wants to get sites into that top 10% because that is where the money is!

2) They must realize that "advertising" has never meant to be subtle. Advertisers what the ad to make you mad or for you to see it. That is what they are paying for. An advertiser isn´t looking to put a button on a page that will blend in with it´s surroundings -- they want something that slams the viewer, grabbing their attention. That is what advertising is! We have had a lot of problems trying to get webmasters to understand this. We had over 200,000,000 ads that we could not run.. due to the fact that they were pop-up´s.
