Microsoft announced on Tuesday the release of Messenger Connect version 5.0.

From WinRumors:
The updated version now includes support for OAuth 2.0. The software giant originally announced its plans for OAuth 2.0 support at the Internet Identity Workshop in May. Google and Facebook both use OAuth 2.0 in their API sets. OAuth 2.0 is an open source protocol built on OAuth, originally released in 2006. Messenger Connect is a collection of APIs and controls that developers can use to access data from the Windows Live network. Websites typically use the service in a similar way to Facebook’s Connect system. Users are presented with a consent form and authorise third party websites to access their friends list from messenger and profile information.
