Google and Facebook both use OAuth 2.0 in their API sets. OAuth 2.0 is an open source protocol built on OAuth, originally released in 2006. Messenger Connect is a collection of APIs and controls that developers can use to access data from the Windows Live network. Websites typically use the service in a similar way to Facebook’s Connect system. Users are presented with a consent form and authorise third party websites to access their friends list from messenger and profile information.
