Today, at its fourth annual Government Leaders Conference, Microsoft Corp. will discuss how Microsoft® .NET technology is empowering governments around the world. The Swiss Federal Statistical Office (SFSO) is an agency that recently added to its growing stature as a pioneer in e-government by bringing the benefits of Internet technology and Microsoft solutions to the 2000 Swiss census. Realizing that its electronic census system would need to handle thousands of concurrent users in multiple languages with excellent data security and confidentiality, the SFSO decided to build the application using Microsoft Windows® 2000 Advanced Server in tandem with a Web-enabled SQL Server™ 2000 database. The result? From start to finish, the building and testing of the site took nine months, and the final application is able to handle more than 23,000 concurrent users.
