Asus ROG G752VS Laptop Review: GeForce GTX 1070 Inside

The biggest thing to happen to gaming laptops this year is the launch of Nvidia's GeForce 10 series. Case in point, the new Asus ROG G752VS is a massive 17" G-Sync enabled system that packs a GTX 1070 GPU, an overclocked Core i7 CPU, 64 GB of memory, a terabyte PCIe SSD + HDD, and more, much more.

CHUWI Hi10 Pro 2 in 1 Ultrabook Tablet PC Review

I admit, I have some goofy gadgets show up on my doorstep sometimes. Those that watch my Twitter feed (@rodtrent) know there’s a steady stream of hit-and-miss contraptions across the threshold of my front door. So, I’ve come to expect more than 80% of what arrives to be difficult to provide positive reviews. I sometimes forgo the reviews completely just because it’s hard for me to be outright negative.

MSI GE62VR 6RF Apache Pro Review

In recent years with the advent of powerful mobile processors, interest and indeed investment in gaming notebooks has been steadily increasing. While a desktop computer certainly has its place, it isn’t always easy to transport such a unit to and from various locations.

It was just a matter of weeks ago that NVIDIA unveiled their next-generation of Pascal-based GPUs for the mobile platform and not wanting to miss out on such a golden opportunity, MSI are on-hand with their next phase of gaming notebooks. Each bearing these powerful GTX-10 series GPUs in the flavour of the GTX 1060, 1070 and 1080.

MSI GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 Gaming X 8G Review

After having a taste of the mighty NVIDIA GTX 1080 Founders Edition, I was very eager to get my hands on the AIB cards. Right after my return from COMPUTEX, MSI had already sent me some of its latest Pascal-based cards but due to pressing personal matters I was unable to test them out until now. So without any more delay, let's dig into these magnificent specimens.

The new GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 Gaming X 8G sit right at the top of MSI's Pascal-based product stack, and bring a host of clever customizations to an already powerful platform. From custom design to enhanced clocks and cooling solutions, MSI rebuilt the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 according to its Gaming brand. These Gaming X cards are factory overclocked and clad in a custom shroud that sports RGB LEDs and TORX 2.0 fans. Under the layer of eye candy, MSI infused the cards with the new TWIN FROZR VI thermal design and select "Military Class 4" components. We also get an exquisite matte-metal backplate etched with MSI's tribal dragon. All these customizations are much needed to fully harness the performance within, since MSI boosted the GTX 1080 Gaming X 8G to 1847MHz on the core and 10108MHz on the GDDR5X memory, while the GTX 1070 Gaming X 8G clock speed are bumped to 1797MHz on the core and 8108MHz on the GDDR5 memory.

Sony VPL-HW45ES HD Projector Review

Sony may have taken an early lead in the UHD projector race, with its trio of 4K flagbearers (the VPL-VW320ES, VPL-VW500ES and VPL-VW520ES), but the company continues to refine its dedicated Full HD offerings too. A great example of that is the new £1850, $1699, AU$4299 VPL-HW45 – a replacement for the VPL-VH40ES and positioned just below the VPL-HW65ES (which adds a dynamic iris). Sony's latest bright box has been given a brightness and contrast upgrade, as well as a lamp update. Lamp life is now quoted at 6000 hours in Eco mode, which is significantly better than many rivals, who tend to quote 3000 - 4000 hours usage. If you're looking for a serious home cinema projector priced at less than a top-end TV, it could well fit the bill.

One thing that hasn't changed with the VPL-HW45ES is the wardrobe. This projector uses the same chassis as previous models in the line. Which is to say, it's smart but undeniably chunky. It's a projector that demands proper installation – be it on the ceiling or nestled into a wall unit. This certainly isn't a white wall job. Setup is a manual, using zoom and focus rings on the top of the unit.
