The Platinum version, just like many other versions of the OCZ product line have heatspreaders. DDR unlike RDRAM doesn't get as hot under high pressure. But since these chips are bound to run faster timings and most of the time they have to operate at a higher voltage, OCZ included the heatspreaders.
