With more features comes an increased possibility of security holes. Windows XP does have improved security over the now-aged Windows 9x, however there are still some options and settings that need to be adjusted to ensure maximum security and protection of your system from would be hackers and script kiddies who exploit these open doors. This guide is based on the assumption that you have some sort of LAN or network connection (DSL or cable) and are not using the system for network file sharing. Many of the tweaks contained in this guide should also work with a Dial-Up Networking connection too.
