The More RAM the Merrier: ATI's New 512 Meg X800XL

Its been an interesting 13 months since the launch of the ATI Radeon X800 series and NVIDIA's rival 6800GT. We've seen the introduction of DDR2, and PCI-Express, the first dual-core products from Intel and AMD, and (as of only about a week ago), the first shipping 64-bit OS from Microsoft. Its been (and continues to be) a tumultuous time, with multiple competing products standardized on different hardware specifications all duking it out as the newer, and frequently more expensive, products slowly trickle down and replace the old standbys.
