Microsoft has been working hard on the new Windows version: Windows XP (the XP used in the name comes from eXPerience), which at first was called Windows Whistler, will supersede Windows Me and also Windows 2000. WinXP should be available for sale late this year and will rely on a number of versions: the Windows XP Home Edition will supersede the current Windows Me, the Windows XP Professional Edition will supersede Windows 2000 Professional and the Windows XP Server versions will supersede Win2000 Server, Advanced Server and Datacenter Server. There are strong rumors that the Server versions will have another name and will not be called Windows XP Server: Windows 2002.
