Norton Internet Security
Posted by Alec§taar Additionally, you may wish to filter ports on your Tcp/IP stack drivers as well, lending an additional layer of defense, this is doable on NT based Os' such as NT/2000/XP/2003 if you are on a cablemodem (dialup connections this cannot be done afaik though)! (It's VERY easily accomplished, & also compliments + supplements Software based firewalls such as Windows XP's native one & also ZoneAlarm &/or BlackIce (I tested these 3 with this technique) AND it also works with Hardware based "firewalling" NAT (network address translation) routers like LinkSys or NetGear units! So, in essence, you can use ALL 3 methods of protection - Software based firewall, tcp/ip filtration @ both Tcp & Udp levels, + hardware based NAT "firewalling" systems... all in conjunction/simultaneously!) * The method for doing this (super-easy) is on the top of a security article I have designed for others online that REALLY gets into how to 'fortify' your Windows 2000/XP/2003 security setup here: http://www.avatar.demon.nl/APK.html APK P.S.=> I strongly suggest looking thru that & applying its listed techniques... it works, & can speed you up online as well as secure you as a bonus! That article goes into ALOT more you can do to secure yourself (& today, we ALL need that online), & takes about, oh, 1/2 hour to implement ALL of its content! To packman - Heh, I remember that conversation there we had here about your NIS, & it's good to see you helping out others regarding it... apk |
