Hi,

I've recently bought the PC game Manhunt by Rockstar and I've tried installing it on my Windows Server 2003 machine and it says that only certain OS's are supported(XP, 2000, ME etc).

Anyway, I found this site and I noticed that someone has managed to get it to bypass the OS check and make the game install and function correctly, see here: http://www.ntcompatible.com/cdetail11442.html - I've followed part of what this person was saying about decompiling the MSI, but i've no idea what bit is the OS check and how to compile it.

I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem and managed to solve it. Any help greatful.

Many Thanks

J

I forgot what MSI program I used but it was freeware. Think i got it from sourceforge.

Anyway, open your MSI with that program and there is an option to extract the files. When it extracts the files, it will do so with all directories intact. After that, just run the exe and it should play. No regedit required.

Hope this helps

Hi rubicant78,

Thanks for your response. I've already decompiled the MSI, I just need to find where the OS check is and how to recompile it again? Any ideas ?

Hey japster

I had the same problem. Copy the context of CD1 on your hard drive, run your .msi editor (I used Orca) and open Manhunt.msi. You must remove LaunchCondition table. Save the edited Manhunt.msi, copy all the files to a cd and run the setup again. It works perfectly fine.

Sorry about the late reply, I thought that no one had replied.

I followed your tip and it worked superbly. Thanks for your help, I can finally play the game.

Careful you don't go out and kill anyone, now...
According to the British press (at least those portions of the British press that can't be bothered to think), playing Manhunt will turn you into a mass-murdering psychopath

All because one schoolboy killed another, and they found that he'd been playing Manhunt, so - hey presto! - that must have been what caused him to kill another human being.

Grrr

No doubt it won't be long before Doom 3 gets accused of the same thing...

I'll get down off my high horse now
