I have a new gforce4 Albatron 4200ti with 128 mg. My mad onion scores are on par with the new card, the test runs flawlessly.

I just installed Midtown Madness 2 and when the game starts, the whole screen is flickering. Does anyone know what's going on? I am running Win 2k Pro.

Sounds like a refresh rate issue... BUT, could be a few more things, read on:

1.) Have you set your GeForce 4 drivers to NOT do vertical sync (VSync off ALWAYS) & have you tried overclocking it?

(If you don't show that ability, you will need to look up COOLBITS online & use the .reg file or registry hack manually to enable that!)

2.) Also, the latest 42.82 drivers (NVidia Detonators series) seem to be REALLY nice as well, you may wish to try those out also!

3.) This game, lastly... is it OpenGL in nature for 3D, or, is it DirectX for 3D?

(THIS MATTERS!)

* See, You can set the refresh rate for that above the 2k/XP native 60hz rate diff. ways for both...

The NVidia Detonators 42.82 (some earlier ones do this as well) allow DirectX refresh rates setting, + DxDiag.exe (native MS tool for diagnosing DirectX files online) has its HELP tab, which has an OVERRIDE button that allows DirectX display refresh overrides too, but not as granular & by resolution as is the NVidia Detonators' series controls in the drivers properties...

(For OpenGL refresh rate overriding the default 60hz speeds NT/2k/XP give you, you'll need a tool like "Rate Patch" (look that up here, a link url to it was posted recently)).

4.) There is also, the possibility you are setting the resolution TOO high & too much for your game from within the game, & using too much AntiIsotropic (8x for instance) & AntiAliasing (4x for instance) with TOO large a resolution... say, 1600x1200, & pushing those settings TOO far with that!

That will floor even larger systems with the heavier & more modern games...

Try a lower resolution in the game itself, & see your NVidia display properties as well & see that you are not pushing AntiIsotropic & AntiAliasing TOO far as well!

5.) Plus, within your game will have settings you wish to examine also that can help (Bilinear vs. Trilinear & Lightmap vs. Vertex ligthing settings for instance as well as detail levels & such as well as the resolution you run it at)...

APK

P.S.=> After all, it's possible that you may just be PUSHING TOO HARD for your video card + CPU mix! apk

Yeeehaw!

To get MM2 sorted out you need to install the Midtown Madness 2 XP Compatibility Patch, which sorts out a lot of issues with the Gefrog x cards. Without this patch all you get are a ton of teared polygons ingame which is scary stuff lol. Hmm ms's site is a tad slow for me atm, so check out MM2 Central http://www.mm2c.com/files/downloads/

When you say flickering, do you mean:

The screen appears to be turning on and off rapidly

or

Everyting seems to be shifted in unmatches thin horizontal lines

or

The sky has rainbow colored flickering trianguls

?

If the latter, check for the latest video card drivers, game updates, relevant W2K updates, and if all else fails try turning off pedestrians.

If the middle one, try lowering game resolution and/or monitor refresh rates.
