The game crashes after the first mission as the USA. Using Win98 Compatiability Mode and disabling hardware rendering lets you get through a few more missions, but by the time of the fourth mission the game crashes at the start, and I have not found a way around this yet.

If game text is messed up, insert line "halftexel=1" in file render.cfg. For network game, delete folder "anims", or else the game will crash when displaying animations of spining vehicle (this piece of information was VERY hard to find).

Install worked flawlessly. Installed patch 1.4 and turned on large assets and had no problems at all running the game in WinXP.

Received the follow messages:
1) Install game normally. If it complains about NT just click OK. Install most recent patch from Activision. At this point the game would start and could be played on my system. However if you stayed in the menus too long the game would seem to lock up. I noticed that this happened at the same time the little wireframe movie would loop. So I deleted all the little .AVI files from the Battlezone directory. Presto, no more crashes. Of course this has the side effect of not allowing you to see the little spinning planets during the briefings and a few other fancy little things which are done with AVIs. Also, many of the sounds in the game, especially the ambient sounds, play at max volume regardless of the in-game volume setting. The voice volume setting works though. I just lower the main volume control in Windows before playing the game. Then raise the volume of the voice to match. I was able to turn on all the special graphics features available in the newest BZ patch. Looks and plays great on my Celeron 400 + Voodoo 3 3000 + SBLive + Logitech WingMan Interceptor joystick.
2) Just wanted to make a comment about installing Battlezone II on win2k. This is what I did to get it to install.
After starting the installer you’ll get a message that you don’t have the right operating system. Before you take the option to install anyway delete “GetInfo.dll” from the “_istmp01” directory in your temporary fill directory (c:temp or wherever). Then run the install.
