4K Video Editing PC - October 2017

A few years ago, your PC just couldn't be fast enough for digital video processing. By now every average PC is able to process Standard Definition (PAL 720x576) as well as HD Ready, but technology doesn't stand still. By now just about every smartphone can record in Full HD and the new frontier is Ultra HD, also known as 4K. This resolution and the 'accompanying' codec HEVC / H.265 require seriously powerful hardware.

5 Things You Could Do With 1TB of RAM

How much RAM does your system have? A top-of-the-line workstation PC may have 32GB, and a cutting-edge PC may have 64GB. The average workstation today is closer to 8GB, while an old laptop may only have 2GB or less. None of these come close to 1TB! Ten years ago, youd be well off with 128GB of storage. Today, hard drives are pushing limits of 24TB and beyond. Will we see that pace of growth in RAM as well? Maybe, maybe not. But its interesting to think about, isnt it? Lets consider what we could do with 1TB of RAM.

Alphacool Eisblock HDX-2 M.2 Cooler Review

If there is one thing we’ve learned about fast M.2 drives over the past year or so is that many of them get hot, very hot. Hot enough that that they will actually throttle and cause slower transfer speeds. We actually saw this in our review of the Kingston KC1000 M.2 drive. Obviously with many major drives (Samsung 950, anything Phison E7-based) having this issue something needed to be done, especially with so many of these drives out there. Well Alphacool has you covered with their Eisblock HDX line of M.2 coolers. There are actually 4 coolers in the line, but we will be mainly concentrating on the HDX-2, which is basically a PCI-Express 3.0 x4 card with an M.2 slot on it and a very large aluminum heatsink. This should definitely solve all of your M.2 throttling issues. Let’s take a look!

Seagate 8TB Game Drive Hub for Xbox Review

Massive storage in one tidy box. The improved visual fidelity of modern computer games has come at the inevitable cost of storage space. Want to install the likes of Gears of War 4 or Forza Motorsport 7? Reports suggest you'll need roughly 55GB and 70GB, respectively, and those estimates are only likely to increase as games begin to adopt substantial 4K assets.

Given the weight of these games, it's a surprise that consoles continue to ship with limited internal capacity. A standard Xbox One S or PlayStation 4 offers just 500GB to play with, while the Nintendo Switch ships with a paltry 32GB, and though the Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro come equipped with 1TB, that's still a limited amount for a growing game library.
