Overclockers New Zealand has put up a comparison between the Alpha PAL8045 and the Swiftech MC462A cooler.

You can see that the base is made of two materials, copper and aluminium. What sets Alpha apart from others is the way they bounds two different metals. They do not use soldering or gluing but use forge to maximise the transfer of heat.....

The MC462-A uses a thick pure copper base to dissipate the heat from the CPU. The pins are made of aluminium and inserted into the base. They are hold in place by soldering to ensure a good heat transfer between the pins and base. The base is even smoother than the Alpha and again no lapping is required.
