In a bid to get folks to upgrade from out of date, (pirated) copies of Windows XP, Microsoft is greatly discounting the price of Windows 8 in China

From Neowin:
Microsoft has some very good news for its Chinese customers, as the company will be massively discounting its Windows 8 price in the coming days, a few months before Windows XP finally stops being supported.

WPDang reports that the company is getting ready to cut its retail price for Windows 8 from the usual 988 yuan to only 299 yuan, the equivalent of $49. The discount is supposed to begin on the 11th of November at midnight and last through to the 24th with users being able to upgrade their devices through the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant. After upgrading folks will also be able to get Windows 8.1 through the Store.
