Silverstone Strider 700w Power Supply Review
Bjorn3D takes a look at the Silverstone Strider 700w Power Supply

One of the least thought about components, but most important, when building a computer system is the power supply. A quality power supply can make all the difference between a nice stable system and one that is constantly giving you random errors that are next to impossible to track down. In a worst case situation, a low quality power supply can actually damage your components or completely kill your entire dream system.

Today we are going to be looking at one of SilverStones power supplies, the SST-ST70F from their Strider series, to see if it fits your needs for your new build or as a replacement PSU for your system that’s in need of a replacement power supply.

As with all of SilverStone’s PSU’s, the 700W ST70F is designed and engineered by SilverStone and then outsourced to be manufactured. By checking the UL listing number on the side of the PSU I found that this model is produced by a Taiwan based company called Enhance Electronics that has been in the business of making power supplies since 1986.

Cooler Master's Sniper chassis Review
bit-tech published a review of Cooler Master's Sniper chassis

At 120 the Sniper is competing with a big portion of the enthusiast case market, not to mention other Cooler Master products in the form of the HAF 932, that is now outstanding value at just ?92. The RC-1000 version of the Cosmos, is also now available for just over 130, essentially making Cooler Master compete with itself!

At this price there¡¯s also competition from Akasa in the form of its Omega, although like the Sniper you¡¯ll need to add a pair of your own 120mm cooling fans to get the best out of it and there¡¯s also the ever present competition of the Antec P182.

It¡¯s a shame really as while the Sniper is clearly very well put together, well thought out and packs some exclusive and very attractive features, it¡¯s been slightly let down by some obvious cost cutting attempts and a price tag that¡¯s ?20 too high (we realise the oxymoron). That 240mm side panel fan alone would have gone a long way to improve thermal performance and would have helped to justify the price tag.

For the most part Cooler Master has another great case to add to its ever increasing big brand line-up, but while it¡¯s exhibited a great deal of good ideas and a lot of potential, we can¡¯t help but wonder how much better the Sniper could have been if the designers hadn¡¯t been held back quite so much.

Palit's Revolution 700 (Radeon HD 4870 X2) graphics card Review
bit-tech published a review of Palit's Revolution 700 (Radeon HD 4870 X2) graphics card

The final stumbling block for the Revolution 700 is its price. Despite offering little in game performance advantage over a stock 4870 X2, which can be picked up for around £340 following aggressive price cuts in anticipation of the launch of Nvidia's GeForce GTX 295, the Revolution 700 retails for in excess of £30 more.

While the improved cooling does go some way to justify this, the 4870 X2's stock cooler is nowhere near as insufficient as the Radeon HD 4850's. There is some nice overclocking headroom unlocked by the triple slot monster, but we have to question how much extra performance you really need when you're dealing with twin RV770 GPUs in the first place. With a budget card the performance gained from a factory overclock is often very much worth the extra investment, but here it just seems almost pointless, especially with the sacrifice of the third slot.

All in all, the Palit Revolution 700 is a real let down. It's barely faster than a stock Radeon HD 4870 X2, consumes a great deal more power at idle, and really isn't worth the price premium, despite the improved cooling and quieter running. To be brutally honest, it's a poor attempt at a factory overclocked custom cooled card, and given the choice, we'd rather use a stock HD 4870 X2, if only for the sake of our electricity bill and a couple of DVI ports.

Intel DG45FC ITX Motherboard Review
ASE Labs posted a review on the Intel DG45FC ITX Motherboard

When people think about ITX, there are a few stigmas that come to mind. The first is that there is limited choice. The second is that performance is lacking. While these two points may have been true in the past, no longer is ITX relegated to the specific niche crowd. Intel has been releasing ITX boards for a long time and their latest releases have come a long way. The DG45FC is an ITX board that accepts 45nm CPUs. Pairing this board with a Core 2 will give you performance of a full sized desktop in a tiny package.

Windows 7 Gaming Performance or Lack Thereof and Random Thoughts
TestFreaks takes a look at the Windows 7 Gaming Performance

Windows 7 the beta! Yep got me one along with most people reading this I'm sure, is it all that? Not sure yet as it's just a beta. Though if you look around the web you'll find many sites touting the superiority of W7 over Vista and even (god forbid I say anything bad about it) XP, I still can't figure out how they do this with a beta, maybe they know something I don't

Sony Ericsson W902 Walkman Review
ITreviewed posted a review on the Sony Ericsson W902 Walkman

The Sony Ericsson W902 is a great looking handset that provides a premium audio experience - even the FM/AM radio sound fantastic! Navigating your music collection isn't as easy as an iPhone, nor can the W902 playback video files, but the retro music navigation keys on the side of the W902 let you skip forward, back, play and pause with relative ease. The camera is also outstanding, as is the ability to make video calls thanks to the second, front-facing camera. The quality of phone calls is also excellent. In conclusion, we really liked the W902. But to make it even more desirable it needs a larger display and much more onboard memory. GPS and Wi-Fi would also be very welcome additions, but these features would obviously bump the price of this already pretty pricey handset. Needless to say, due to the size of the display and lack of proper keyboard, Web browsing (Netfront browser) and e-mailing sucks. But for music fans not wanting to compromise on imaging and video, Sony Ericsson's W902 is a very impressive piece of kit.

Logitech Comfort Lapdesk Review
ITreviewed posted a review on the Logitech Comfort Lapdesk

Using a laptop can give you neck ache in a hurry and burn a hole right through your thighs. To address these pain points, Logitech's Comfort Lapdesk (26.99/$39.99) is the newest addition to the company's line of laptop accessories. The Comfort Lapdesk provides a stable base and helps protect against laptop heat whether you're working from the comfort of your sofa, relaxing in your bed or reclining on the living-room floor. It looks great, though white is a bitch to keep clean and there is no mousing area. And its curvaceous bottom makes it look like it would be better suited as a breast desk, or at the very least a butt desk.

ECS Elitegroup GeForce 6100PM-M2 V2.0 Motherboard Review
OCModShop posted a review on the ECS Elitegroup GeForce 6100PM-M2 V2.0 Motherboard

The funny thing about how expensive technology is, is that as soon as you buy something that costs $300, it's automatically obsolete and is worth roughly 1/3 of the original price. Actually, it was pretty much obsolete the moment you bought it. The world of the PC DIYer is a fantastic world, but the price bracket sucks the biggest set of hairy boys possible. That's why when I had to replace my motherboard on my tight budget, I went for one that wouldn't break the bank. Because let's face it. There are going to be a couple dozen introduced next week that will render your new i7 compatible board as ancient technology. I think I'll stick with my Athlon Dual Core until the price range comes down.

The motherboard I chose to replace the junker with the fried PCI-E slot is the GeForce 6100PM-M2. Yeah, it has an Nvidia chipset. And while Nvidia may not make the best chipset on earth, they make one of the cheapest when you are on a budget. And since it supports my Athlon 64 X2, along with 16GB of DDR2 RAM, I am more than happy to give it a shot

Like all high-end graphics cards, the HD 4870 produces a lot of heat, and even ATi's dual-slot cooling solution has difficulties keeping the card cool. Today we get to test an EK-FC4870 waterblock and take a look at how it performs.

Provided you have the room for it, and the desire for one of the best air cooled cases on the market, then the ATCS 840 is a hard case to pass up. What's even more impressive to it, though, is how this case manages to move more air than the previous champion - the HAF932, all while appealing to a more global audience than the formerly hard designs. I'm going to go and call this one a major winner. Go out and grab this if you're looking for a new case!

The TechZone has posted a review of the Z Cinema Home Theater Speakers from Logitech

While a 5.1 speaker system is nice and all, not all of us want to deal with the messy wires and cables that would be involved in managing six speakers. Providing us with surround sound without the need for rear speakers is the Logitech Z Cinema Advanced Surround Sound System. It may look like your regular run-of-the-mill 2.1 speaker system, but those two satellites are actually capable of producing virtual surround sound via SRS TruSurround HD technology.

Cooler Master Black Label Limited Edition Cosmos Chassis Review
TweakTown posted a review on the Cooler Master Black Label – Limited Edition Cosmos Chassis

1 in 500; take a look at it for a moment. Few concepts are able to draw such an emotional response like exclusivity. In our mass produced, stamped steel world, many go to extremes to show their individualism with custom cars, boats, bikes and I am pretty sure that on more than one occasion a few unique mods have made their way to the TweakTown News section as well. There is a fine line between truly unique and unique to you. Not to belittle those that put their blood, sweat and tears into modding mass produced products, but owning a true limited edition from the factory can have a huge impact on the ego.

The Cooler Master Black Label is not the company’s first product or group of products to come in limited numbers. Many of the CSX cases were produced in batches as small as 25 units and each was labeled with an identification number such as Number 15 of 25. The Cooler Master Medusa that currently houses my personal gaming system is 1 of 300. Still, the Medusa is just one of many from the CSX line, so the feeling of having a real limited product is somewhat diluted. The Black Label, at least for now does not share this stigma and currently there is only one product in what may become a Black Label product line. But for now at least, the feeling of owning one puts me on top of the world.
