Splitting the Atom: Inside the Asus Eee PC 901
Bit-Tech published a detailed dismantling of the Asus Eee PC 901 sub-notebook

Getting in is relatively easy, providing you know where to look. You'll first need to remove the battery and take out all the screws on the underside (there should be 13 in total), including the one for the flap that hides the non-warranty voidable removable parts.

Once that's out, take out the 16GB SSD and the single DDR2 memory module - note if you want to upgrade you'll have to replace this DIMM with a bigger one since there's only one socket available in the 901. We're still keen to try this 16GB SSD in another notebook and we'd love to know how much of the 901's BOM (bill of materials) is taken up by the SSD.

To the left of the SSD slot and above the DIMM socket, there is the Wireless 802.11n module. Both antennas are connected to it - they run up and around the 8.9" LCD screen.

Gigabyte's GA-EP45-DQ6 motherboard Review
Bit-Tech published a review of Gigabyte's GA-EP45-DQ6 motherboard

We do think Gigabyte has made a motherboard with a lot of potential here -- the board currently works very well under default conditions. It has tons of features---and some are genuinely great little nuggets---far, far better software and very good performance for DDR2 but even though it has lots of BIOS options we are unable to use with the board in its current state. Strip out the four Gigabit Ethernet sockets and strap on 802.11n Wi-Fi instead would give it a similar high end appeal but with more variety for home users. The hardware RAID implementation also needs more thought put into it.

What is has done for us is lay the foundations for what could be some awesome value friendly EP45-DS3R or the DS5 that we had a first look at not too long ago. However, we'll give it a few months to see what Gigabyte comes out with on the BIOS side before we really see if they can shine.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 260/280 Review
Tom's Hardware guide posted a review on the Nvidia GeForce GTX 260/280

Over a year and a half – that’s how long the GeForce 8800 GTX remained in the position of what could be called Nvidia’s high-end GPU. Oh of course, six months after its release and – just a coincidence – just before the arrival of the R600, we did get an 8800 Ultra with slightly higher clock speeds, but it was nothing revolutionary. Then two and a half months ago, the arrival of the 9800GTX awakened hopes of substantial performance increases, but in the end the card offered only limited gains over the good old GTX, and was behind the Ultra version. For owners of these cards to be really happy with their investment, it was high time for Nvidia to offer more than a few extra megahertz or to rely on pairing two GPUs on the same card.

Hands-On with Nvidia's GeForce GTX 280
Maximum PC takes a look at Nvidia's GeForce GTX 280

Watching the ongoing race between AMD and Nvidia to build the ultimate graphics processor reminds us of the tale of the tortoise and the hare. AMD has played the hare, aggressively bounding ahead of Nvidia in terms of process size, number of stream processors, frame buffer size, memory interface, die size, and even memory type. Yet Nvidia always manages to snag the performance crown. The GeForce 200 series is but the latest example.

Tech-Reviews.co.uk has completed the review for the Cooler Master Silent Pro M 700W.

Noise in computer systems is an ever growing problem - one which many enthusiasts strive to deal with. A Power supply is often thought as quite a quiet component of the hardware which makes your PC. However, turn off all of your running fans and just listen to the noise from the PSU; you'll be pleasantly surprised. For this reason, Cooler Master has developed the Silent Pro which boasts a sound level of less than 16dBA.

Asus MK241H 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor Review
HotHardware.com posted a review on the Asus MK241H 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor

LCD monitors were supposed to free up our precious desk real estate as they relegated bulky CRTs to the local landfill. But with the quantity and quality of high-definition content increasing and LCD prices continuing to drop, widescreen LCDs are becoming increasingly prevalent. Now our desks are filling up again--only this time in width, instead of depth. Still, for many, this is a small price to pay for the relatively large screen area and wide aspect ratio that these widescreen monitors offer.

One such widescreen LCD monitor is Asus's MK241H 24-inch display, which sells for a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $499. It measures just under 22-inches wide, which is a typical width for a 24-inch (diagonal) display. Head on over to the site and check it out...

Aeneon XTUNE DDR3-1600 CL9 4GB Memory Kit Review
3D Game Man posted a review on the Aeneon XTUNE DDR3-1600 CL9 4GB Memory Kit

I found the Aeneon XTUNE DDR3-1600 CL9 4GB Memory Kit to be stable, reliable and performs very well. Considering this memory is comfortable at DDR3-1600 many won't even consider overclocking it, although you can push a little more out of it. Something else that's very impressive is the voltage. Only requiring 1.5 volts at break neck speeds is very cool or at least I think so. Most of the DDR3 memory I've tested in this category has a voltage at or above 1.8.

GTX 280 ForceWare 177.35 Performance
TweakTown takes a look at GTX 280 ForceWare 177.35 Performance

We figured that graphs speak louder than words, so today we took the time to test the new drivers under XP and Vista across a range of benchmarks on our ZOTAC GTX 280. I’ve decided that although there are new Catalyst drivers available for me to test, people would be more excited to see what NVIDIA can do to (hopefully) squeeze more performance out of the GTX 200 cards.

While a lot of sites have loved the GTX 200 series of cards, they don’t seem to completely understand what’s going on in the AMD camp. I can honestly say that NVIDIA need the GTX 280 to get a speed bump, or gamers may be flocking to AMD for their graphics card sooner rather than later.

Today we are checking out a reasonably priced 24-inch LCD from ASUS. The MK 241 looks good and offers a wide range of features to entice users.

The display works well for normal computer use with nice color saturation and decent black levels. Skin tones looked natural and colors popped well. ASUS claims the display has a 130% color gamut, which is something you really can't measure. Colors looked good though.

Visiontek HD 3870 X2 Overclocked Edition Review
Bjorn3D look at the Visiontek HD 3870 X2 Overclocked Edition.

Visiontek does it again!! It’s a two in one deal. Two GPUs under the same roof or should I say PCB. (To bad it isn’t two GPUs for the PRICE of one.) They couldn’t stop there though they had to make it even more tempting by overclocking it. Too many times space is wasted in your rig getting the power of two cards in Crossfire, now there’s just one card with one easy setup. Just set it and forget it. Or, if you are like me, drool over it.

The Visiontek 3870 X2 Overclocked Edition is one of the first cards to reach 1 teraFLOP boundry. FLOP stands for Floating Point Operations Per Second. TeraFLOP means one trillion Floating Operations Per Second. It is a measure of how many multiplications in a second the device can do. It basically means the more the FLOPS the faster the device can compute. Class dismissed, it’s time to play!

Asus P5Q Deluxe Review
OCC has published a new review on the Asus P5Q Deluxe

Overclocking on the P5Q Deluxe could not have been easier. Leave all of the voltages alone except for the CPU Vcore and the voltage for the memory, and you can go quite far. In fact, I went right to the limits of my CPU - and beyond. The P5Q allowed me to boot the computer through 500FSB and on into MemTest 2.0, where, sadly, it could not make a complete pass. But by dropping 5 FSB, I was able to get into Windows at 495x8 with my Q9450, but stability was nowhere to be found with the Q9450 at this level - voltages, GTL ref settings, VTT, PLL, nothing seemed to help. Dropping the FSB to 480 was benchmark stable, but not much else. At this point, all of the voltages were tweaked as well as the GTL reference voltages. These allowed me to finally gain stability at 474FSB. While only 4 FSB faster than the previous best on this CPU, it's still faster. Stability means different things to different people some are fine with SuperPi stable, but in the non-benchmark record setting world, 24 hour stability is a must. Seeing how the P5Q responded without all the massive voltages needed on previous chipsets told me there is some honest potential for overclocking on the P5Q Deluxe.

BFG GeForce GTX 280 OC Edition Review
The Guru of 3D posted a review on the BFG GeForce GTX 280 OC edition

Today a review on BFG's GeForce GTX 280 1024MB OC edition. It had to go something like this; the minute BFG finished designing this product they got all giddily and figured .. ooh we gotta send Guru3D one. Sure thing, hey bring it on.

So a couple of days ago, prior to the actual GTX 200 series product launch, we received that OC model from BFG. BFG figured, hey for the same launch price we can introduce a slightly overclocked version, fire off a life-time warranty at it and slap an OC label on there.

Tom Clancy's EndWar Preview
Bit-Tech published a hands-on preview of Tom Clancy's EndWar

Besides, for every negative we can think of about Endwar we can also think of one or two positives. The game is obviously a labour of love for many of the developers and it's clear than an awful lot of work has gone into not just perfecting the admirable science behind the vocal recognition software, but also the balancing and technicalities of the game itself.

There are still a few things which need to be cleared up to satisfy our curiosity -- is the game part of an entirely new franchise Ubisoft are launching and will the game be staying as an Xbox 360 exclusive, for instance. These are matters on which Ubisoft is keeping understandably a bit quiet on for the moment.

Still, whether or not the franchise looks set to spore one thing is certain for the moment and that's that Real-time Strategy buffs are in for a definite treat when it comes to / /Tom Clancy's Endwar. The game may still look a little bit rough and may be a bit on the small-scale side of things, but the game is very fast-paced and has a deceptive level of depth once you've got to grips with the voice controls and are able to order groups to take cover in buildings or unleash special abilities.

/ /Endwar is an interesting looking game and while it obviously isn't going to be the definitive Tom Clancy experience by the look of things (that honour still lies with //Rainbow Six), it could certainly be one of the most interesting console games of this year regardless.
