Three Reasons to Use GNOME
XYZ Computing has posted Three Reasons to Use GNOME

Recently KDE turned ten years old, a milestone by any measure. Over the past ten years this desktop environment has undergone tremendous improvements and introduced a number of advances into desktop Linux. KDE is popular, highly customizable, and, no matter what your tastes are, you will probably agree that it can look good. If all this was not enough, KDE has developed a celebrity status by appearing on a few popular television shows. Despite all this, GNOME is still the best desktop environment for Linux. Anyone with any sense knows that the only way to communicate text-based information effectively on the internet is through a list. As such, here are three reasons why GNOME is the logical choice for the majority of home Linux users.

Zalman Reserator 2 Review
hi-techreviews.com posted a Zalman Reserator 2 review

Zalman has made a name for themselves by catering to the PC user that demands a quiet PC, I'm not talking about the person that can tolerate a pair of 12 volts fans running at 7 volts either. It's long been known that one way to reduce noise is to convert to a water cooling system, yet the drawback there is you have to fight the noise of the fan and the exposed water pump. So you may gain a little but you will not achieve pure silence.

The Reserator 2 water cooling system that we are reviewing today may be the closest you can get to absolute silence in a PC setup. Since the unit has no fans and has a submersible pump built into the unit, what sound it does make is barely audible. So come on along as we check out this awesome piece of gear from Zalman and see if you like it as much as we did.

Seasonic M12 700W Power Supply Review
PC Stats posted a review on the Seasonic M12 700W Power Supply

Seasonic hasn't done anything revolutionary with its M12 power supply, it just put together a very high quality package with a 700W rating. With a retail price of $240 CDN ($214 US, £113 GBP) the M12 700 is certainly expensive, but dare I say, it is probably one of the best modular power supplies on the market. Based on our past experiences with Seasonic power supplies, we know it deliver the goods efficiently - a modular design simply sweetens things.

New Native CrossFire Technology from ATI
Hardware Secrets looked at the new Native CrossFire Technology from ATI

CrossFire is a technology released by ATI to compete with nVidia’s SLI, allowing you to connect two video cards in parallel in order to increase 3D performance. First we thought that CrossFire technology would be the greatest vaporware of all times. But it has finally reached the market one year ago, one year behind the competing technology from nVidia, SLI. Even though CrossFire is better than SLI in the way that you can hook two completely different video cards together (SLI requires that both cards to be exactly the same), it has two major drawbacks: you need a “master” (a.k.a. “CrossFire Edition”) video card to control CrossFire (“master” cards were hard to find when CrossFire was released) and the connection between the two cards are done thru a cable outside the PC. ATI is now fixing these two problems with a new CrossFire version, called “Native CrossFire”. Let’s take a look on it.

ThermaltakeR Extreme Spirit II Review
C.O.D. put up a ThermaltakeR Extreme Spirit II Review

If you haven't gone through it already, you just might. I spent a bunch of money on motherboards recently and they all seem to be having the same problem. Is it because they just don't make them like they used to? I am referring to the active cooling on my Northbridge; the fans keep making funny noises then crapping out. It drives me crazy. Usually though, the active cooling on the Northbridge was always sub par any way; just enough to get by. With all the advancements in mobos, the cooling solutions have been getting more and more important. So with two fans going on two different motherboards, what options do we have left? ThermaltakeR not only has an answer, they claim they have a better solution than was shipped with the motherboard in the first place. Enter the Extreme Spirit II.

For the gamer on a budget the EN7600GT SILENT/2DHT/256M is an excellent choice, providing excellent gaming performance as well as decent overclocking potential as well. Foxconn 975X7AB - 8EKRS2H Review
Overclockers Online has posted a new review on the Foxconn 975X7AB - 8EKRS2H

My opinion is somewhat biased because I am an overclocker, first and foremost. The Foxconn 975X7AB-8EKRS2H is not an overclocker's motherboard... right now. I hinted at it in a couple of sections, with some BIOS work, this motherboard might take off. Currently, however, this motherboard should only be thought of as an excellent Intel 975X chipset offering if you're not into overclocking.

Razer Barracuda HP-1 3D Audio Gaming Headphones Review
PC Apex posted a review on the Razer Barracuda HP-1 3D Audio Gaming Headphones

I said the HP-1 has big cans; the reason is that there is a lot going on inside. There has to be enough room for four speakers and hopefully enough room that they can provide accurate sound separation. If you look closely you can see the front and rear speakers are canted away from each other, presumably to afford greater separation. The sub-woofer sits behind the front, rear and center speakers.

Opps did I take a wrong turn, the device was accurate even why out in the wilderness, I wanted to test it more out there but the laptops batteries were dying quick. Still through out the testing the device remained accurate and the only time I couldn't get a signal was when I was in a basement. Which is to be expected.

Antec Fusion Media Center Case Review
Tweaknews posted an Antec Fusion Media Center Case Review

Antec once again has delivered a knockout product, and one that I'm very pleased with. Sure, there's a few little problems here and there, but nothing that diminishes the overall design of the case. While the insides are tight, there's room for everything a small media center will need, and everything fits properly, without any fiddling.

ASUS M2R32 MVP Crossfire Motherboard Review
Motherboards.org posted a review on the ASUS M2R32 MVP Crossfire Motherboard

The M2R32-MVP is a good solid choice without all the frills that a Deluxe or an ASUS Premium Edition board would carry. Things like a Wi-Fi AP Solo or extra SATA ports are not included, but the pricing should reflect this. Feature-wise, the M2R32-MVP board fits the bill, with 10 possible USB ports and two possible Firewire ports with brackets. The external SATA connector is another plus and overall the board is well rounded enough to satisfy many users who need functionality, but not overkill features.

Bjorn3D posted a review on the nMedia System HTPC 180SA & 280BA

In this review, I will reveal the new nMedia System HTPC 180SA and the slightly larger HTPC 280BA enclosures for Home Theater Personal Computers. You can expect that the quality and craftsmanship of these cases will receive thorough testing, and the optional features such as the IR remote integration and cooling fan noise control will demand close inspection. In addition, I have paired these two cases with similar HTPC components, and put them all into action using the new Windows Vista (RC1) Ultimate Edition’s Media Center functionality.

Ati Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB Video Card Review
The Guru of 3D checked out the Ati Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB Video Card

ATI worked hard to finish up its new 80 nanometer products and despite a delay of all the 80 nanometer chips, it is finally ready to be released. The Radeon X1950 Pro as tested today is such a product, and is actually the RV570 based card that you probably heard about a couple of times already. So today we'll be looking at the rather lovely Radeon X1950 Pro from this company, a review on ATI's latest 12-pipe mid-range product which obviously was based off the R580 silicon, and is quite frankly a very credible graphics card as you'll learn in this article. The card features 36 Pixel Shaders units.

How to install SLED 10 on the ThinkPad T60p
Software in Review published a guide about instaling SLED 10 on the ThinkPad T60p

The Lenovo ThinkPad T60p is the first ThinkPad to officially support GNU/Linux. Unfortunately that support is not quite as broad as some would like -- you're more or less forced to install and use SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 (SLED 10). The good news is, SLED 10 is a highly usable, stable, and configurable operating system. Officially you're supposed to buy a support contract from Novell if you need help installing the operating system on a ThinkPad T60p, but if you'd prefer to do it on your own, this guide will walk you through the process.
