Analysing NVIDIA G8x Performance in Modern Games
Digit-Life posted an article on NVIDIA G8x performance in modern games

This article was initially intended to continue our analysis of shader units and to show how their number affects NVIDIA G8x performance in modern games. We planned to change parameters of a G80-based graphics card to make it resemble the mid-end G84-based products. Unfortunately, our plans never got to the first base - G80's hardware performance counters didn't work with some shader units disabled. So we decided not to trash our test results and use them in a brief comparative analysis of performance and some other parameters of modern 3D games.

OCZ ATV Turbo Flash 4GB Drive Review
Virtual-Hideout posted OCZ ATV Turbo Flash 4GB Drive Review

The OCZ ATV Turbo 4GB flash drive is a no doubt a handy little device with the ability to withstand the elements and shock by it's completely rubberized exterior. If you're tough on your flash drives and need them to withstand a beating, then this flash drive is designed for you. However even if you're like me and actually take care of your computer parts, this is still a nice unit to own because you know it can take a beating if it had to, and also for it's tough looking design.

Logitech G9 Laser Mouse Review
APH Networks has published a new review on the Logitech G9 Laser Mouse

It seems just like yesterday when Logitech released the updated flagship G5 laser mouse. The company flagship mouse seems to be short lived, however -- being available in the market for more than a couple months is Logitech's new flagship mouse for computer enthusiasts, the Logitech G9 -- in which can be considered quite a unique and different offering from Logitech's flagship product in its category. Almost all flagship enthusiast Logitech mice for the past few generations uses the shell first implemented with the MX500 -- it continued onto the MX510, MX518, G5, and finally, the G5 V2. The G9, on the other hand, follows none of the previous tradition as a radically new shell is developed along with a unique placement of buttons as well as the famous free-spin wheel first introduced in the Logitech MX Revolution and Logitech VX Revolution. What it really reminds me of is the car enthusiast's long awaited Pontiac G8 on a RWD platform for a full sized sedan at a relatively reasonable price. As juxtaposed to the Logitech G9, is this change a practical improvement over previous mice from the company, or a negative impact among its users? Let's investigate into this as we go over the Logitech G9 today.

ASUS Blitz Formula (Special Edition) Motherboard Review
PC Modding Malaysia posted a review on the ASUS Blitz Formula (SE) Motherboard

The ASUS Blitz Formula is overall a pretty decent motherboard for a P35 chipset. The bundle and packaging was exceptional as you get everything that you would want on your motherboard purchase. The board also features some of the latest and most innovative technology in the motherboard market such as the SupremeFX II audio board, external LCD Poster, Voltminder LED and the Fusion Block System. The motherboard layout was also very well designed and it will definitely standout from the crowd. We liked the Fusion Block System and we're sure most water-cooling enthusiasts will feel the same way too.

Creative ZEN 4GB Review
T-Break checked out the Creative ZEN 4GB player

The Creative ZEN is the new line of MP3 players that shall replace the ZEN Vision W. This may disappoint some of the Creative fans and also seems like an oddball on Creatives part to dump a 60GB player in favor of a 16 GB one. Regardless of the management decision, this little wonder here is really a marvelous thing to look at and use.

DriverHeaven posted a review on the Visiontek 2600 XT QUAD 1GB video card

What .... another 2600 review? Well before you close the window, this is no ordinary 2600XT, Visiontek's new "Quad" 2600XT is basically two cards in crossfire, slapped together with a mighty 1 GB of ram! Hardware video acceleration and the ability to power four 2560x1600 monitors certainly deserves some attention, right?

We pit it against an equally priced 8600 series product to see if it is worth your money..

nVidia Tesla Technology
Hardware Secrets posted everything you need to know about Tesla, a series of “video cards” from nVidia that are used to process regular programs and not video under a concept called GPGPU.

With the processing power of GPUs (i.e. the graphics chip located on the video card) increasing everyday – to the point that they are more powerful than regular CPUs for math calculations – it's been discussed for quite some time now if GPUs couldn't be used as a CPU for processing regular programs. The idea, known as GPGPU (General-Purpose Computation on GPUs), is to throw to the GPU calculations that would otherwise be done by the CPU in order to increase performance. The problem is how to do this, as a programmer would have to know how to program to a specific GPU in order to make a program that could use the system GPU, and this program wouldn't work with a different GPU. To solve this issue nVidia launched a free C compiler to their GeForce 8800 series, called CUDA. With CUDA any programmer can easily compile their programs written in C to use the power of the system GPU to process their program. Going one step further, nVidia launched a series of "video cards" called Tesla. These "video cards" feature GeForce 8800 GPUs but they do not produce video: they are targeted to be used as CPUs, processing programs. In this article we will tell you everything you need to know about Tesla, including a lot of pictures of Tesla solutions.

AMD's ATI TV Wonder 650 Combo PCIe x1
3D Game Man posted a review on AMD's ATI TV Wonder 650 Combo PCIe x1

I've reviewed many TV Wonder products and they've all been very good, but AMD's ATI TV Wonder 650 Combo PCIe x1 takes the cake! Why this TV Tuner product is exceptional has mostly to do with the 650 Pro chip. This particular product has two tuners, one tuner is responsible for receiving analog TV channels and the other receives digital and HD channels. It's also capable of receiving FM radio. I should also note that the 650pro chip doesn't require any cooling, so it's a perfect option for a silent HTPC. Watch the video to find out more and check out the bloopers at the end.

SilverStone TJ09 Review
Overclockers Online has posted a new review on the SilverStone TJ09

Silverstone have gotten everything just about right with this chassis, and more importantly, they have gotten nothing much wrong. There is no part of the case that seems poorly designed or tossed in as an afterthought. Sure, I'd prefer a different I/O panel option on the front/top of the case, I'd love even more flexible access with the motherboard tray, and I think a couple of extra fans could be included for the price, but these are pretty niggley points that are in the end, personal preferences more than meaningful criticism. Taken as a whole, the chassis is well thought out, expertly executed, wonderfully finished, and is a pleasure to use.

The TemJin 10 Case from Silverstone truly is a remarkable case. The engineers at SilverStone really outdid themselves with this case. PowerColor Radeon HD 3850 Xtreme 512MB Review
Elite Bastards posted PowerColor Radeon HD 3850 Xtreme 512MB review

Both the Radeon HD 3850 and 3870 retain their forebear's 320 Stream Processors, split into four arrays of eighty, coupled with both sixteen texturing units and ROPs. The tessellation unit also remains, as does HDMI support (with dedicated audio capabilities) as standard. However, gone is the 512-bit ring bus memory controller seen (and doubtless rarely used to its full potential) in R600, to be replaced by a narrower 256-bit ring bus controller, although this has supposedly been optimised to utilise bandwidth more efficiently.

In the same vein as NVIDIA's G92, RV670 sees an upgrade to its video processing capabilities over R600, seeing the UVD engine previously seen on ATI's mid-range and low-end offerings finally transplanted into the performance sector, and not before time. This allows for full acceleration of the entire video decoding processing when dealing with any High Definition movie format, be it H.264 or VC-1. Also as per G92, RV670 becomes the first ATI offering to support the PCI Express 2.0 standard, offering more bandwidth for anyone using a suitable PCI Express 2.0 equipped motherboard.

AMD ATI Radeon HD 3870 and 3850: 55nm RV670
HotHardware posted a review on the AMD ATI Radeon HD 3870 and 3850 video cards

Today AMD finally takes the wraps of their new ATI Radeon HD 3870 and 3850 cards, based on their RV670 GPU. At 55nm and 320 Stream Processors strong, these new cards are set to do battle with the likes of a Geforce 8800 GT and GTS.

"As for the fundamental blocks inside the GPU, the RV670 doesn't differ very much from R600. The RV670 still has 320 stream processing units, 16 texture units, and 16 ROPs. The RV670 however, does away with the 1024-bit internal ring-bus memory controller in favor of a 512-bit variant. And its
memory interface has also been pared down from 512-bits to 256-bit. From high-level perspective, these changes sound-like downgrades, but other tweaks to the GPU negate a massive loss of internal and external bandwidth.

Legit Reviews posted ATI Radeon HD 3850 CrossFire Video Card Review

The ATI Radeon HD 38XX series are the first graphics cards in the world to support DirectX 10.1 capabilities and plug-and-play ATI CrossFireX multi-GPU upgradeability. Sapphire HD 3870 Review
OCC has published a new review of the Sapphire HD 3870

After looking over the graphs in the gaming benchmarks, it's clear to see that this card's results fluctuated quite a bit. The scores weren't too impressive in some of the games but it did great in others and definitely started redeeming itself in BioShock - which is a very recent game. It'll be interesting to see how this card performs once we start implementing new games into our benchmark lineup. There are new drivers being released on 11/15/07. I will download these drivers as soon as they are released and re-run all benchmarks and tests and see if the performance is impacted with the new drivers. If I get different results, I will update the review and the conclusion.

Seagate 1TB Family of Drives ... Part 2 - ES.2
Bjorn3D have posted part of their Seagate 1TB review

As we alluded to in Part 1 of this review the Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200.11 is aimed at the mainstream consumer market and the Seagate Barracuda 1TB ES.2 is designed more for enterprise networking solutions. In this part of the review we will concentrate on the Barracuda 1TB ES.2 and therefore will use a slightly different approach, one more slanted toward the audience for which this drive is intended. It should also be noted that our focus here will be primarily on testing; as many of the issues covered in Part 1 (i.e.; Perpendicular Magnetic Recording overview, and the like) are also applicable to this drive and would be redundant if repeated.

We plan to test the Barracuda 1TB ES.2 drive strictly in the 64-bit VISTA environment which is much akin to what it will face in real-world application. We have added additional tests to our regimen that are 64-bit specific that we feel will help give the potential consumer a better feeling of this drive's performance.
