Napster.

The word doesn't mean much now, not after all the litigation, the press, and the corporate overhauling. But back in September of 1999, Napster was this thing. That was out there. And it consumed me, just like the rest of the world. At that time I was just entering Virginia Tech as a lowly freshman. With my computer all set up in my dorm room that August, I passed the time playing first-person shooters with my hall-mates (we were all into the beta version of this thing called "Counter-Strike." You may have heard of it). A broadband connection wasn't new - I'd already been the lucky recipient of a cable modem back home in Maryland.
