With the release of Athlon 64 processors in the Socket754 format, the competition between VIA and nVidia has turned acute in the field of chipset manufacture. While for the SocketA platform the nForce2 chipset proves to be more efficient (even the release of the dual-channel VIA KT880 hasn't changed the situation to the better), the nForce3 150 for Athlon 64 loses at speed (albeit not much) to the VIA K8T800 chipset. VIA chipsets offer more expansion options due to the multifunctional south bridge VT8237 (two channels for SerialATA, plus eight USB2.0 ports).
