Elder Scrolls Online: Elsweyr Review

Elsweyr is the latest, and possibly most significant, Chapter to be added to Online's Elder Scrolls Online. It is, for all intents and purposes, an excellent piece of MMORPG gaming. I've spent twenty hours in its grasp so far, and have enjoyed it far more than Summerset. But not all is purrfect in the home of the Khajiit. This is our review.

Intel Core i5 8400 vs. i5 9400F Meltdown/Spectre/L1TF/MDS Mitigation Impact

With recently seeing a deal on the Intel Core i5 9400F processor, I picked it up for testing as part of our Spectre / Meltdown / Foreshadow / Zombieload testing since it features some hardware mitigations and is otherwise quite similar to the unmitigated Core i5 8400 that I also have in the benchmarking farm. Here are some results when benchmarking the Core i5 8400 and Core i5 9400F with and without the current Linux mitigations for these CPU vulnerabilities.

OWC Aura Pro X2 SSD Review

Apple was an early adopter of PCIe SSDs, introducing them in 2013 when the NVMe specification was still in its infancy and before any M.2 NVMe hardware was available. As a result, Apples PCIe SSDs for the era used a proprietary form factor rather than the now-common M.2 standard. But form factor limitations aside, they were still physically and electrically stand-alone SSDs, meaning that unlike Apples latest machines with integrated SSD controllers, these machines could have their SSDs swapped out for an upgrade.

This is where Mac accessory and upgrade specialist Other World Computing (OWC) comes in. OWC has offered several aftermarket SSDs in Apples custom not-quite-M.2 form factor, culminating in the recent release of the Aura Pro X2 SSD. Designed to be a drop-in upgrade, this is a modern high-end SSD with 3D TLC NAND and the latest Silicon Motion SM2262EN controller, with the reference M.2 PCB layout adjusted to fit Apples form factor. So for older Mac users – and particularly Retina-generation MacBook Pro owners – the Aura Pro X2 SSD presents a chance to breathe some more life into these machines with a newer, larger SSD.

Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB Review

Sapphire’s Nitro+ RX Vega 56 8G is distinctly high-end. Unfortunately, it’s also difficult to find as the company focuses on its Pulse-series cards. Don’t let that scare you away from other, cheaper Radeon RX Vega 56es, though.

Talion Mobile Review

The mobile MMO landscape continues to grow exponentially. Even in modern times we seem to be bombarded with what seems like many companies trying to find that World Of Warcraft ?magic? bottled in a mobile context. Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr's epigrams are frequently quoted. My favorite is one that comes to mind when playing Talion. The epigram goes "plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose", which loosely translated means ?"The more that things change, the more they stay the same".

Thermaltake Toughpower iRGB PLUS 1000w PSU Review

We must admit that over recent years, we have become pretty huge fans of Thermaltake. Despite being a reasonable new brand, the company has been working hard to get an impressively extensive range of products on the market.
