More gaming publishers are recommending that we upgrade 1GB systems to 2GB, for optimum gaming performance. Bit-Tech is looking at real-world gaming performance using combinations of 512MB modules and 1GB modules to see if more really is better.

In BF2, we found that there was a decent minimum frame rate improvement when the memory bus was overclocked to 520MHz. The
average frame rate also recieved a small boost too, but it wasn't quite as dramatic as the 3 fps minimum frame rate increase. Both configurations were playable at 1600x1200 2xTSS 8xAF with maximum in-game details. The four 512MB modules performed well too, retaining the same minimum frame rate as the 2x1GB modules at 400MHz. However, the average frame rate dropped by nearly 5 fps.
Memory: is more always better?
