Optical quality: Firstly, a generic lens is usually sharpest at the centre, with optical degradation worst at its edges. In fact, poor quality lenses often exhibit a “vignetted” effect, whereby the edges of images become darkened due to optical or light “fall-off” at its edges. Now, recalling how the D30 uses only the “sweet spot” (central area) of any lens, this would mean that it is less prone to such image degradation and may even circumvent it in some cases!
