DDoS attacks depend on the availability of insecure PCs to load zombies. Zombies are programs that a hacker loads on your PC and uses to carry out a DDoS attack from several PCs at one time. A zombie can use Internet Relay Chat (IRC) to join a password protected channel on an IRC server and then just wait for commands. Once the zombie receives a command to carry out a DoS attack, it begins streaming out packets towards its intended victim. When the site being attacked checks to see who is attacking it, the IP address of YOUR PC will show up along with any others being used in the attack.
