Benchmark Review: Seagate Momentus XT Solid State Hybrid @ Benchmark Reviews
Mechanical hard disk technology has been the traditional standard for decades, refined to the point where it can deliver massive storage capacity beyond 3TB. Recently introduced solid-state drive storage solutions have begun pecking away at the market share thanks to their tremendous speeds and operational performance. Each offers an advantage over the other, leading manufacturers to seek out a hybrid solution that delivers quick access and large data capacity. The original 500GB Seagate's Momentus XT hybrid had the right ingredients, just not enough polish. More than a year later, the Seagate Momentus XT 750GB solid state hybrid drive (SSHD) returns with a double-size 8GB SLC NAND flash SSD buffer fused onto a larger 7200-RPM hard drive. Seagate FAST Factor firmware and Adaptive Memory Technology negate the need for third-party software, and makes this an all-in-one hybrid SSD solution. In this article Benchmark Reviews tests the Seagate Momentus XT (750GB model ST750LX003) in single and RAID-0 configurations against its predecessor, and several of the fastest notebook storage devices available.

HotHardware.com: Seagate Momentus XT 750GB Hybrid Drive
Seagate's first Momentus XT hybrid drive arrived about a year and a half ago. The original, top-of-the-line, model featured a 500GB hard drive paired to 4GB of SLC NAND flash and a SATA 3.0 interface. At the time of its release, the original Momentus XT turned out to be a rather compelling product. Its price was relatively low and Seagate's adaptive memory technology "just worked", which resulted in increased performance that was seamless to the end-user, regardless of the OS being used.

Today Seagate is ready to reveal its next iteration of the Momentus XT. The updated version of the drive we'll be showing you features a 750GB storage capacity, with 8GB of SLC NAND flash, and a faster SATA 6.0Gbps interface. Much of the underlying technology is similar, but this new drive has more magnetic storage, more flash memory, a speedier interface, and its adaptive memory algorithms have been tweaked for better real-world performance...

Legit Reviews: Seagate Momentus XT 750GB Hybrid Drive Review
What happens when you take a large handful of mechanical hard drive and add a pinch of solid state hardware? For Seagate, this formula produces their latest generation of Momentus XT hybrid drives that bring the capacity and price of a traditional spinning platter drive with some of the speed benefits of a solid state drive. Could this make the SSD makers nervous? Check out the article to find out.

Overall, we'd certainly recommend the Momentus XT and frankly wouldn't go back to a plain old hard drive unless we were forced to. The expediency of boot and application load times are something that, once you get used to it, you can't seem to live without. Keep in mind that it may take two or three times for the Adaptive Memory Technology to decide that it should be cached and speed things up. On the down side, every operation is not SSD fast, especially if you're performing it for the first time...

Hardware Canucks: Seagate Momentus XT 750GB Hybrid Hard Drive Review
SSDs seem to be all the rage these days but while they offer incredible performance, what they haven't been able to achieve is acceptable capacity levels at sub-$300 price points. This is where hybrid drives like Seagate's new Momentus XT 750GB come into play. They offer a combination of SSD-like performance in your most-used applications while also offering higher storage capacity at a mass market price.

Anandtech: Seagate's 2nd Gen Momentus XT: More NAND, Larger Capacity
It's been over a year since I reviewed Seagate's first hybrid hard drive: the 500GB Momentus XT. At the time I felt that it wasn't nearly as good as an SSD, but likely the best 2.5" hard drive money could buy. Armed with only 4GB of SLC NAND acting as a read cache, the original Momentus XT delivered VelociRaptor performance in a much more power efficient package.

Bjorn3D: Seagate Momentus XT 750GB Gen 2 (ST750LX003)
The second generation Seagate Momentus XT marries a large amount of drive capacity with the lightning-fast performance of 8GB NAND flash. Keep reading to find out how it performs.

Engadget: Seagate outs second-gen Momentus XT: a 750GB hybrid laptop drive for $189
Seagate was quick to jump into the hybrid HDD/SSD fray last year, with the decently priced and capable Momentus XT. Now we have a successor with identical branding, but with the HDD upped to 742GB, NAND storage slightly increased to 8GB, plus a faster SATA III 6Gb/s interface. The 'flash-assisted drive' promises to cut boot-up and lag times compared to a standard laptop hard disk, by gradually learning which of your files are popular enough to deserve a spot in that solid state VIP lounge. We're looking at a price of $189, including a five-year warranty, and availability from today.
