GamePC has posted a review on Sony’s DRU-700A DVD+R DL burner

Current DVD ReWritable drives offer users the ability to burn up to 4.3 GB of data onto a single disk. That's a ridiculous amount of data for a single piece of plastic to hold, but while the vast majority of folks are still figuring out ways to properly make use of such storage capabilities, we're seeing the next generation of DVD ReWritable technology come to market, DLDVD, otherwise known has Dual Layer DVD ReWritable. DLDVD, also known has DVD+R 9, has garnered wide industry support, unlike previous attempts which companies designed to extend the life of the CD-RW platform. DLDVD effectively doubles the storage capacity of today's DVD ReWritable drives, allowing for a whopping 8.5 GB of data to be stored on a single disk.

In a surprising (and welcome) twist, we're seeing the first drives based on this technology hit the market at incredibly modest prices, only slightly more than today's DVD +/- ReWritable drives, while offering twice the storage capacity and all the same speed. The first such drive which we've seen hit the market is from Sony, who has proven itself the dominant player in the DVD ReWritable market since they introduced the first dual format DVD ReWritable drive in early 2003. Their new DRU-700A is heralding the charge to the golden age of DVD storage, let's take a closer look.
